Kimberly Cheatle had served as Secret Service director since August 2022.House Committee on Oversight and Accountability Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) will hold a full committee hearing titled "Oversight of the U.S. Secret Service and the Attempted Assassination of President Donald J. Trump." The hearing will conduct oversight of the U.S. Secret Service to gather information from Director Kimberly Cheatle following the assassination attempt of President Donald J. Trump at a rally in Pennsylvania.
The United States' secret service director Kimberly Cheatle admitted that they failed to protect Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump at a July 13 campaign rally in Pennsylvania this week.
While speaking before the House of Representatives Oversight Committee, the director testified, "We failed. As the director of the United States Secret Service, I take full responsibility for any security lapse."
"The assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on July 13th is the most significant operational failure at the Secret Service in decades," she added.
US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle acknowledged on Monday that the agency failed in its mission to prevent the assassination attempt on former president Donald Trump.
"The Secret Service's solemn mission is to protect our nation's leaders," Ms Cheatle said during testimony before the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability.
"On July 13, we failed," she said. "As director of the United States Secret Service, I take full responsibility for any security lapse." But she rejected a wave of bipartisan calls for her resignation.
Republican members of Congress are focusing on the role of the Secret Service, as their frustration and anger grow over the agency's response to an attempt to assassinate presidential nominee Donald Trump.
A House committee hearing will on Monday grill its Director, Kimberly Cheatle -something Speaker Mike Johnson said would make for "must-see TV" for Americans concerned about security lapses at a Pennsylvania rally earlier this month.
"She's got a lot to answer for. And these concerns are bipartisan," Mr Johnson told CNN.
Ms Cheatle's agency is charged with providing protection to the president and his family, former presidents, those in line to the White House and other political candidates.

Tired of hearing people saying she “should resign” it shouldn’t be her choice. She should be fired, charged, convicted and received the highest punishment by law.

Also shes not struggling to come up with these answers as to where the failure occurred. She can’t come up with any legitimate answers regarding the failure to protect the former President. Bc it was never her intent to protect him. Her attempt (along with other players) was to take the former President out.

She said herself she takes FULL responsibility for what happened. So let’s consider the firefighter that acted as a hero protecting his family when that life that was lost, the president injured and was almost taken out and and others injured and affected by this tragedy. Then they give HER the OPTION to resign…absolutely not. Not acceptable in my book. She and the other players involved should be behind bars.🙄🤬😤

I also believe that there should be a deep investigation into everything she has done as head of SS. This isn’t just about an attempt to take the former President Trump out. In the process of her agenda she has caused a serious national security issue. Our country is precious is should be protected by the best of the best. Now bc of her and any other players involved an investigation needs to be done asap to assure that our country is not in any imminent danger due to her incompetence. 😡😤🤬

This type of crime and incompetence should be the highest punishment that any court of law can charge her with. She and any one else involved deserves it and should receive NO MERCY.
