This is better than anyone I've ever heard explain the concept. People seem to jump too far and start with enclosures and target notes because no one told them to make sure their foundational skills are good enough. Excellent video and much appreciated!

Thanks Daniel. This really helps one make the internal connection. You'll figure out the landing notes; their sound and feel. More than the explanation, this is a really useful technique/ exercise. I had learned the theory behind playing over changes, but was struggling to to "play" them. I feel like some of the other videos out there are really to show how good the instructor is, but not to help the student make the internal connection. I'm subscribing!

I have always wondered what strategy people use to get started here. Great lesson!

Great lesson as always Daniel. In the last example which was the triad voicings, would that be mostly for comping or would it be a good idea to also practice playing through them arpeggiated, to create some melodic motif ideas over the changes?

Awesome! I have two cuestions sir:
1. The Edim7, where does it come from? Is it a chord from the Bb lydian scale? I'm a bit confused, the harmonic rol of the others chords is clear tho 🫡
2. What model is your microphone? Your voice sounds great 👌🏼

In the real world no one has time to do this in front of 5 people or 50, 000 people instinct like a boxer, what you have practiced and your ear and mind will guide you to the next note. KNOW WHATS IN YOUR TOOL BOX! arpeggios, scales, runs, Hexatonic, know them well. Break those scales in pieces, fragments are the new trend two finger rather then three finger.

Then it take years to get out this stuff and start to really play. :-)
