A panel discussion on Les Blancs, in the context of the African, European and American narrative, and the role of trauma in the play, lead by Ola Animashawun, from the National Theatre's New Work and Learning departments. The panel for this discussion includes director Dawn Walton and producer Tobi Kyeremateng.

Les Blancs is Lorraine Hansberry’s final drama, written eleven years after A Raisin in the Sun. The play is a highly theatrical search for the soul of post-colonial Africa.

The National Theatre's New Work Department creates world-leading new plays for the National Theatre’s stages. The stories it develops reflect the diversity of the UK, actively mapping the best emerging talent from across the country.

Dawn Walton is the Founder, and former Artistic Director and Chief Executive, of Eclipse Theatre, where she developed and directed the ground-breaking Revolution Mix plays: Black Men Walking, Princess, and The Hustler and The Gift. Her production of Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun was nominated for UK Theatre Award for Best Touring Production. Dawn was also the director of Selina Thompson’s Salt.

Tobi Kyeremateng is a freelance award-winning cultural producer and social entrepreneur with a focus on creating rich cultural experiences and sustainable social change through film, live public events and community-led programmes.

Thank you to the amazing artists who have allowed us to share Les Blancs in this way, during this unprecedented time, when so many theatre fans can't visit their local theatres.

At the National Theatre in London, we make world-class theatre that is entertaining, challenging and inspiring. And we make it for everyone.

Les Blancs was filmed live on-stage for the National Theatre Archive in 2016.

I love that you highlighted how different audience memebers (black, white) receive the work. As an aside, I'm mentally preparing myself to watch the play also out of need to bear witness as a black South Africa/Swazi woman. Thank you for sharing this panel discussion

There was an extraordinary production of "A Raisin in the Sun" in Bogota, Colombia two years ago. Incredible.

Just a small correction...Les Blanc was written in 1960, not 1970.
