I basically grew up in the forest (Finnish countryside, not much else to do). I don't understand how I was never bothered by any weather as a kid, no matter how extreme. I remember sometimes going to school by kicksled (3, 5km) in pitch darkness in a -25C snow blizzard, and not being at all bothered by it. Fifteen years later I get sensory overload from simply wearing long sleeves :D

"...in theory" cracked me up 😂

I feel like I’m the same way, like if it’s a nice picturesque hiking trail I’m good. But I can’t when it’s just too nature, especially with spiders

my kindergarden had the offer to join the forest group every thursday, parents just had to put their kid's name on a list and pack wet weather clothing, our teachers brought hot beverages like hot chocolate and tea and we would just walk around to different places in the woods that we named, build tents out of sticks and they read a chapter in a book during lunch break. I still remember the smell of rainy leaves and hot chocolate, I loved it so much!

As a child who was sent into the forrest every day for a year, I must say it was one of the best years of my life. I don't think we had a piece of tarpaulin to go under if it rained, we just put up the hoods of our rain jackets and continued playing, it was great.

I loved Claudia’s ranting in that video. It was hilarious and very relatable. A great tangent.

As a child I use to roll in mud and clamber through hedges... I was 100% that child enjoying forest school

I was an outdoor educator teaching year 6 in an outdoor classroom. Some days, it's just rain. But it's worth it to see eagles fly by with fish, mink frolicking, and the river rescue crew out training. Just training.

I am listening to this, outside. In the sun. With my hair in a messy bun. And I love being an indoor person, in theory. But the garden and chickens are outside.

I think it's cold where I grew up in Canada, but less damp. So the forest was often a great retreat. Especially from the summer sun.

I've been a runner for 40+ years. Recently I had opportunities to work out/run indoors. I am SO over the outdoors now!

My friend sent her son to Forest School because of Covid. In Canada, in the winter! As far as I know he loved it. :)

I was homeschooled and spent a lot of time outside by choice, all year round, but we did have a home to come back to if we wanted to change clothes or get warm or whatever, so I guess it's not quite the same.

I was one of those "Some kids do that on purpose" kids 😅
If there was a puddle I was in it, there was no stopping me.
I was outside all day, getting my clothes dirty. I played on the balcony in the snow, in my pyjamas while my mom was sleeping.
Getting home usually meant that I had to take off all my clothes by the door and then walk directly to the bathtub with only my underwear on, because I was so dirty 😂

“They’re so much nicer in theory”
Ha! That’s so true!

I worked in a forest school for two years and it was GREAT for the emotional regulation of the children but it was NOT great for the mental health of the teachers.

Bro, I was homeschooled, and we spent our whole childhood in the forest or a field. Legit, some of my friends would regularly go into a forest, make traps, catch and skin rabbits, make fires, and cook and eat them. AT 9 YEARS OLD! completely safely. And expertly. We went to forest school every week. We all had various fire making tools and knives we just carried around. It was WILD, and looking back now, I can not believe it was allowed. I was the oldest, and this happened from when I was 8 until I was 12, and we moved. We were feral 😂

As an American camper, the way you say “just a bit of tarPAUlin to go under if it rains” is so endearing 😂

Yes, I grew up on rural California, USA. We would disappear into the woods for hours growing up, without our parents. No one allows their kids to do that now, unfortunately. I don't think the world has gotten more dangerous, weve just become a bit overprotective.
