Woodland Photography Guide Actual Camera POV - Ft Nikon Z8

In this video, I explain how I go about finding compositions in the woods.

I know that some people struggle to find compositions in woodlands but if you follow along with my instructions, I'm sure it'll help.

The secret (if there is such a thing) to finding woodland compositions is by using the camera's live view. In my opinion, creating a workflow like this will really help if you're struggling. The human peripheral vision is between 30 to 50mm. Therefore, if you apply a longer lens to your camera you're already seeing the world differently.

I'm not saying this will work for everyone, nor am I saying this is the best way, I'm simply saying, that seeing the world through your lens will offer you a unique perspective.

Well, I go to the foot of my sock. I never thought I would see the day that the Canon man through & through comes over to the dark side of Nikon. Working with Mali, I would liken him to Sir Patrick Moore. Maybe not dress wise but, enthusiasm and so excitable, like a puppy on heat! We all love Mali dearly.
Photographic balance and visual weight is something I have been working on in the last year. If the image doesn't work walk away, whereas before I would just snap away & try to make it work in post. It is all part of the rich tapestry of life.

Listening to the back & forth around fine-tuning compositions was a total blast! I think I often try to have that discussion with myself in my own head, but it's nowhere near as effective.

Maybe I just need an inner Mali as my foil whenever I go out into the local woodlands 😂
