Top 10 Movie Teams of All Time | A CineFix Movie List

Movies are only as good as the characters in them, and sometimes the true magic is less about the individuals, and more about how they work together. But watching the dynamics of partnership can be very different than an entire army hatching a plan so we're breaking them down by size. From small squads to big, these are our picks for the 10 best movie teams of all time.

While partnerships can be based on a sense of contrast like The Odd Couple or Vincent and Jules from Pulp Fiction, they can also transform from animosity to respect like Buzz and Woody from Toy Story or Marshall Cogburn and Mattie from True Grit. Building from a two person team though, dynamics start to shift from an odd man out in a three person group like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the interpersonal mess of a foursome like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or the March Sisters from Little Women. And once we get to groups the size of The Seven Samurai, The Fellowship of the Ring or Ocean’s 11, all kinds of fascinating dynamics begin to play out.

I feel like there should be a follow-up list about Top 10 Movie Duos.

The dynamic of a partnership of two people is a little too specific compared to groups with bigger numbers. Besides as your #10 slot pointed out there is quite a swath of different types of duos you can go for.

The one thing this list was missing is music. No singing trios, no bands, no dance troupes, no ensemble musicals or musical ensembles of any kind. Singing in the Rain's threesome, Roxy and Velma from Chicago, the Jets, Spinal Tap, Almost Famous

The crew of the HMS Surprise in Master and Commander. One of the best ensembles you could squeeze into a 2+hr runtime. Absolute Masterpiece!

A crew with nine members: Apok, Switch, Cypher, Dozer, Tank, Mouse, Trinity, Morpheus, & Neo. Note the subtle subplots among them. (Apok and Switch have a relationship. Trinity shrouds four corpses with one another but apart from their murderer.) All in all, it's good use of supporting characters without overshadowing main characters.

It’s worth noting there could be a whole category of children’s adventure movies here. The talking animal teams from Homeword Bound or The Land Before Time, or the dragonriders in How to Train Your Dragon, or the kids from ET escaping on bikes, or the Disney cast of cartoon heroes like in Aladdin or Beauty and the Beast.
