The Jan. 6 committee is set to meet publicly for the last time Monday and vote on whether to recommend federal criminal charges against former President Donald Trump for his role in the attack on the Capitol in 2021. NBC’s Garrett Haake reports for TODAY.

FIRST OF ALL: the federal law the Committee is relying on is 18 U.S. Code 1512.

18 U.S. Code § 1512 is entitled: “Tampering with a witness, victim, or an informant.”

This code has nothing to do with insurrections, riots or protests.

And, SECOND OF ALL: imagine that a small group of servants conspired to usurp a house from their masters.

Working behind the scenes, the servants manage to usurp the master’s arms, money and goods and then, once in control, they abuse their masters.

When the masters finally rise up and disarm those awful servants, take back all their goods, and (maybe even) execute those servants…

…are the masters committing an act of insurrection?!?

Or, are they simply taking back what rightfully belongs to them?
