That was some very heavy stuff for a 17 year old dedicated guitar player in 1980, and here I am still listening to it. Had a drummer who could keep up and play it good, we tore up the garage and drew a small crowd. Ahh, the good old days.

By far one of, if not THE most incredible pieces (as such a marvel can hardly be called a mere song) in all of rock and roll and all its many variants. I am deeply saddened that such a masterpiece and the power trio from the land up north do not receive more attention, and the Limelight (see what I did there?) goes instead on such "artists" (called such in the loosest possible definition of the word) as... I don't know, whoever is popular at the moment. I am confident that if the internet had existed when this album was released, then Rush would be in the spotlight, rather than the aforementioned whoever. 2112 is truly a wonder to listen to, and I only wish that more people knew about this masterpiece.

The best part about this, is when you finish it, you realize you just spent 20 minutes listening to one song. Then you hit replay anyway.

Such a brilliant piece... I'm not even going to call 2112 a song, it's greater than that. The whole thing is completely beautiful and intriguing on so many levels, it breaks my heart to think of some of the terrible mainstream crap that has replaced this work of art such as Nicki Minaj and Will-I-Am

I'm surprised not to see it mentioned that 2112 is based on the Ayn Rand novella titled Anthem. Neil Peart (Lifeson & Lee) was a big fan of both Anthem and the philosophy behind it.
Ayn Rand should be required reading for any fan of Rush or the Rock Music Scene.
What the story is about foretold what would happen in the world of popular rock music in the future. (Today). If a group as competent as RUSH started today, there would not be an outlet to hear their music. RUSH knew the future of music when the album was released in 1976. The enemy has now assumed control.
