I was on the floor in front on the TV at the time, my beer in one hand, my head in the other... all you could do was watch, hope & pray... and we fucking did it!

What a brilliant day. Our campaign may have ended in heartbreak this time around, but it's these kind of moments that stay in your mind. This is why we watch the world cup!

will never forget this moment, as a 25 year old English lad all I had ever known was loss in these situations.
It almost didn't seem real, when Jordan's penalty was saved it felt like the same old story, but it wasn't.
People say Trippier's free kick was the best part of WC18 for an England fan, but for me it will always be when Pickford saved that 5th spot kick and I knew we were finally going to win a shootout.

Even though we didn't win this world cup and lost in the semi final, this was the best year supporting England, to finally win a shootout in a world cup was just incredible and this manager and team seemed to bring the country together, getting to a semi final of the WC for the first time since Italia 90 and a squad that played their hearts out

England have always feared the dreaded shootout, and lets be honest, when the whistle blew for penalties, most of us gave up. We all thought the same thing "Surely not again... Not after all this..." and we all feared the usual result, the result all many of us have ever known.

But not this time.

This time they lifted the penalty curse. They may as well have lifted the cup.

Watching the shootout, not ready for the fairytale to end just yet, knowing it could be just a few painful minutes before the dream is over.

Standing in the pub with your best mates and that last penalty goes in and the beautiful realisation that this intoxicating dream continues for at least a few sweet days and nights.

There's nothing like the world cup in this world, the hopes, dreams and heartbreak.

It's absolutely infatuating, intoxicating and inescapable. <3
