Thanks so much for these great recs! I’ll be checking out The Explorer. And Wool has been on my shelf for ages. I definitely need to read those books sooner rather than later.

It's my best kind of recommendation video, one in which I've heard of hardly any books. I'll definitely have a read of these over the next couple of months, thanks for popping this up!

I read very little science fiction, but I’m always interested in branching out and trying new-to-me genres/books. I’ve added The Explorer to my GR TBR.

I have Wool sitting here, I bought it a while back. Definitely plan on reading it ASAP!

I love me some Psychohistorical Crisis. Also, Darwin's Radio.

WOOL is fantastic--one of my favourites. In terms of other sci-fi books I love, there will always be a special place in my heart for Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson (the original Ready Player One).
Flowers for Algernon by Daniel Keyes is another favourite. It's quite quiet in the science-fiction department in that it's largely contemporary and character-driven, but it definitely has all the elements and it made me SOB.
1984 by George Orwell is obviously a classic.
You like Jay Kristoff, right? Have you ever tried Illuminae by him and Amie Kauffman? It's brilliant. It has a really unique formatting (think House of Leaves, but a lot easier to follow) that's super immersive and reads like a film.
The Saga graphic novel series by Brian K Vaughn is also excellent a discovery of mine this year. Also The Fifth Season by N.K. Jemesin. Both of these are really awesome blends of sci-fi and fantasy.

i actually thought the altered carbon series was done really well on Netflix and as i read the book after watching i thought it wasnt quite as vivid as the show.
