The New Norm Speedrun WORLD RECORD (0:35.208)

The New Norm is a relatively unknown game. It released in July 2024 on all newest gen consoles, mobile, and PC. for the purposes of this run, i played on PC. there are a lot of useful glitches on PC that don't exist on any other device.

Before i explain the glitches i used, i want to explain that The New Norm speedruns are timed with RTA (Real Time Attack). which means that any loads or time spent outside of the game count towards the actual time. I personally think that speedruns should be timed with IGT (In Game Time) so that people with lower end devices can still get world record, but it is not my decision to make.

Now, let's explain the glitches i used.
First, i used the ScratchSkip glitch. By pressing the \, 8, Tab, and Page Up keys at the same time on the perfect frame (within 1/24th of a second), you can skip the part where norm scratches his itch and get straight to the beer segment. (or, if you're on console you can do a slower version of the glitch by maneuvering the left joystick perfectly, but i'm not sure exactly how since i dont own the game on console)

Second, during the Unnamed Teen Person quicktime segment, if you select the woke and based option at the same time at 21st frame, there's a 30% chance for the game to crash and your computer to bluescreen. this also corrupts your save file. However, i discovered that if you press the T, [, -, and 3 key at the same time before the bluescreen, you can manipulate your save file to corrupt in such a way that it puts you at the latest possible spot you can save (at the final frame of the chaz phonecall)

for the final glitch, during the part where Norm sprays himself with beer, if you press {, Numpad *, and 6 keys simultaneously, you can corrupt the game code into deleting the portion inbetween the spraying of the beer and charlie's final dialogue.

With that, we get the final time of 35 seconds and 5 frames (at 24fps) Or 35.208. this record is still very beatable, and i'd like to see someone optimize this game even further. maybe if the leaderboard mods decide to time the game in IGT this could go sub 10, but idk.

For those curious, this is related to the camera zooming into the couch. By rapidly pressing multiple directional inputs at once you can cause a character’s dialogue to break (as well as typically crash your computer). But when it restarts it will skip to the next time that camera is supposed to be at that position, which in this case brings us to the Chaz Phone Call dialogue event closer the end.

I’m not sure how the Regina dialogue skip works, does someone mind explaining that one?

This run isnt valid. You unintentionally abused the croudstrike hit which reloaded all the servers putting you farther then you should be. Still a great run. But have you tried the "progress -> meep" skip yet?
