My name is kara david. I am a broadcast journalist and professor of journalism in the Philippines. The "lead" or the opening sentence/paragraph is the most important part of any news article. In this video, I teach you different ways of writing the lead. From the most traditional to the most creative. A useful start for any student of journalism. Enjoy!

I was in NSPC 2016 at Koronadal where you were the Guest Speaker. As a huge fan, watching your documentaries since childhood, it was an honor to see you in person. I was very inspired by your stories. Thank you, Miss Kara! Keep inspiring young journalists.

I love how she uses hand gestures to emphasize certain actions, just like when she points to her head when she says "tandaan." Mas nae-engage ang student sa topic at mas madali nilang natatandaan yung mga itinuturo sa kanila kapag ganito. That's why body language is so important din especially sa mga ganitong setting. Kudos, Mrs. Kara!

Dati noong highschool ako, walang official publication sa school, pero sumali parin sa provincial journalism contest. Rush read book about it. And I fell in love. Roles assigned: Cartoonists and a Photographer. The sa actual event, additional Editor.
The pressure talaga na walang alam pero need to do well.
And I remember the Guest of Honor was someone named Jessica Soho VIP pero syempre di ko sya kilala. That was a wonderful experience of a HS schooler from humble school and lack of knowledge what is journalism.

During college, random contributions lang sa papers like poems. Di ako pumasa sa exam to be part ng team.

But I like journalism sana...

Fave ko PhilStar, MB and Tempo newspapers. Pero syempre di ko naintindihan mga formulas.

It's so nice to see vlogs na ganito. Igniting old dreams / likes.

Taking this path requires great intrepidity because, apart from the danger brought by unearthing the truth, job stability isn't promised because it is a field of competition. Therefore, not so many are pleased by this career and are even down-looking at us, who are pursuing it in college. Nevertheless, I will courageously continue because Ma'am Kara never fails to ignite my heart to do so. I am anticipating learning more from you, Ma'am, even though I didn't get the chance to be one of your students. To be honest, that fact makes me cry all day and night. But by God's grace, may we see each other in the field or when I get the chance to take a master's degree at UP.

Praise the Lord for blessing us with an honorable journalist like you!

I’m an IT professional but find interest about journalism. Not because I want to change career but better understand and be part of the news na parang ikaw ang nagsusulat. Iba ka talaga mam Kara. The best. Salamat po. :)

Thank you Ms. Kara, napaka helpful po nito sa akin. I'm a grade 9 student and I joined DSPC at our school and I am a writer! I really don't know how to start writing a news because I have never experience writing one before but it is not my first time joining DSPC, I joined DSPC when I was at grade 8 but I am a broadcaster, I transferred at a new school and joined DSPC but they do not have broadcasting so I joined writer. Thank you Ms. Kara!

Well as student on journalism and as being a contestant at the calabarzon, i only have one opinion about you're teaching.

This really helped me alot! I've learned about every kind of leads at reporting or broadcasting a news at feature writing, my teacher liked my example. Also she said i just really need a little bit improving in being a contestant in featuring news.

Thats all, thank you very much miss kara david this is so helpful! I hope i win the contest at the calarbazon! Once agian ma'am thank you very much!
