Don't forget that the year before, Riggs had destroyed Margaret Court 6-2 6-1.

a top female player champion in her prime defeated a 55 year old retired tennis player. Wow what a big accomplishment. NOT.

He easily beat the number 1 womans player months prior. He was the heavy favorite against BJK. So he threw the match to win a lot of money. So he still won lol. Like look at that last hit into the net pretty obvious.

It's a nice way to remember it but not true, he said he would beat the top female player, and then he easily did, beating Margaret Court a far superior player to bjk, in straight sets, then months later he faced bjk after she won Wimbledon, and purposely threw the match to win gambling money. Perhaps he even knew it would help the women out, he wasn't even really sexist more just putting on a show to sell tickets.

Maybe he threw the match (he had a history with match fixing and sports betting, King even explains it in her autobiography) and maybe he didn’t, who knows, what matters more is the positive impact King’s win had on the (at the time) fledgling women’s tour. Women deserved that spot on the podium next to the men with all the salaries, sponsorships, scholarships, etc that came with it. This match was one more step towards that podium. One day I’m sure there will be a world where men and women will truly be on equal footing with each other, one day😊

Riggs was retired and wasn’t good in 1973 he played tennis in 1940s whilst Billie Jean King was in her prime but if you put Billie Jean King against any of the top men today she would get destroyed easily Novak, nadal, Roger, Murray, isner, Alcaraz etc etc etc

It wasn't a fair match! Billie King got to use the doubles lines. So odds were stacked against him from the being.

If memory serves me, Riggs was only allowed 1 serve (not 2), and he had to defend the doubles court. Some battle of the sexes!

Seems like the match was 'Rigg'ed, 😎

Honestly i think tennis is the sport with the least skill gap between women and men

It was a publicity stunt to promote female sports

Riggs threw the match. Actually watch it and you'll see. Women play women so they'll have the ability to win something

Tbh the match against Billie Jean proves even more men superiority…. The match was really closed and the guy is 55 and retired and not in shape whereas King was in her best shape and form ever….

Also she never mentions that prior to that match Riggs beat Margaret Court who was #1 in the world at that time and who is considered one of the best female tennis players of all time…. So the tennis game indeed went back 50 years after these two matches…

Nevermind the time the 203rd ranked male tennis player beat both Serena and Venus Williams...oh wait that goes against the narrative.

Men and woman are not equal and races have different qualities.
Some are stronger, some are smarter or more compassionate.
Everything is different.
Are we equal. Not necessarily, but if you want to be spiritual or religious, i believe we are all equal in our value to the world.
