Liz Truss' speech to Tory party faithful 'went down well'

John McTernan, former advisor to former UK prime minister Tony Blair, says UK Prime Minister Liz Truss’ speech at the annual Conservative Party conference “went down well”.
“She was particularly helped by some Greenpeace protesters who stood up in the middle and shouted at her,” he told Sky News host Peta Credlin.
“She was able to rally the hall around her against those disruptive protesters.”
Mr McTernan said the speech was “aimed at Tory loyalists”, not the country, and “did what it was meant to do”.
“It was full of rhetoric about hard choices but not a single description of a hard choice or what she would do faced with one,” he said.
“That’s a difficulty given that this was a week when she actually U-turned on one of her emblematic policies of cutting one of the higher rates of tax.”
