Lviv is a very religious city, in which almost all denominations are represented, so it is not surprising that Easter is given special importance in Lviv. Therefore, if you plan to spend the Easter holidays in Lviv, you need to familiarize yourself a little with the peculiarities of the life of the city during these festive dates. Let's start with a small excursion into history and traditions.

The celebration of Easter in Lviv on Easter, Pascha, Bright Resurrection of Christ...Easter belongs to those holidays that do not have an annually determined date, because it changes every year. Many people ask why exactly? In order not to go into calculations, I will say in general: the date of Easter is determined from the ratio of the lunar and solar calendars, which repeats every 19 years. Interesting, isn't it?

In Lviv, this day is traditionally called Easter. "Great day" is the great day of Christ's Resurrection, which worldwide symbolizes the victory of good over evil, light over darkness.

All Christians in Lviv are preparing for the Easter holiday, which is how long the Great Lent lasts for 7 weeks. The last week, the most strict, is called Holy Week. Maundy Thursday is especially important. Therefore, please note that if you plan loud parties, you will have to refuse them. In cafes and restaurants, even the music plays very quietly.

On Good (Holy) Friday, in all churches of Lviv, the Shroud (to a specially prepared place in the middle of the church) is taken out - the fabric in which the body of Jesus Christ was wrapped. During this day and the following night, a very large number of people can be seen coming to the temple to pray, approach the Shroud and kiss it. Children are taught Christian traditions from an early age.

Easter in Lviv is also a very beautiful holiday, because the residents of the city wear their best clothes, the best embroidered clothes and whole families gather to consecrate Easter baskets, which, by the way, also look very beautiful. Each basket is covered and embroidered with a handkerchief. Even the smallest Lviv residents, like adults, carry their tiny basket to church. It looks very touching.

Baskets contain everything tasty and fragrant: the main attributes of paska, pysanky, krashanky, as well as sausage, ham, butter, salt and other goodies. All baskets are woven from vines, generously decorated with greenery, and a candle must be lit in each.

Services in the temples begin on Saturday evening, around 11 p.m., all people gather in the temples again. And exactly at midnight comes the solemn moment when the priests announce "Christ is risen from the dead!" and all the churches of Lviv are illuminated with bright light.

Guten Tag Herr Sergej dass Video ist sehr interessant und schön wir in Deutschland feiern leidern Ostern nicht so schön kirchlich wie dass die Ukrainer machen dass mit dem Körbchen segnung wird bei uns in Hessen leider gar nicht gemacht da Hessen mehrheitlich Evangelisch ist.

Bei uns im Dorf veranstalten die Evangeliken am Ostersonntag früh um 5 Uhr immer ein Osterfeuer
