After attending the Month's Mind Mass with the Derry Society for Martin McGuinness at St. Patrick's Cathedral, I felt inclined to pay my respects with this song. Rest In Peace, Martin.

I first heard this sung by Tommy Makem and the Clancy brothers when I was 16. It's every bit as beautiful as it was back then.

Are there 6 people out there without ears and a soul? A sad thing to think, that these 6 should walk alone thinking that this is a bad song. A beautiful rendition to be true, and a tearjerker for infinite reasons.

Aye be the gents who fought for the liberty of their dearest, their noblest and their countrymen. Praise to the strongest of women who took in strangers while weeping for their lost. Ire shal never fall, and her people shall keep their heads up for they are loved.

May there always be work for your hands to do. May your purse always hold a coin or two. May the sun always shine on your windowpane. May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain. May the hand of a friend always be near you. May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.
