Germany have got the crazy tactician Julian Nagelsmann as coach. Nagelsmann who was the youngest ever Bundesliga coach aged 28 and who led Bayern Munich to a Bundesliga title in 2021/22 has impressed the German FA so much that they have extended his contract to the 2026 World Cup. When Nagelsmann first came on board, he had a bit of a stop/start beginning. However, he showed one thing that was crazy and somewhat reassuring.

Nagelsmann showed he wasn't beyond experimenting and growing. His first two matches against USA and Mexico had him playing the 4-2-3-1 and 4-2-2-2. Germany won against the United States but drew to Mexico. There was much work to do for Nagelsmann to revive a German side who had one of the most pathetic displays of football in the 2022 World Cup. It was a challenge that Nagelsmann enjoyed. It gave him the opportunity to play around with the squad and he did some crazy stuff too. After his first game, Germany played against Türkiye and he returned to his 4-2-3-1 setup. Now, this seems like a regular formation, but the German coach had some pretty interesting ideas. He played Havertz as a left-back. The tweak seemed to work for Havertz as he opened the scoring in that game. However, Germany went limp and a 3-2 defeat in Berlin was the result. Clearly they hadn't gotten there yet and the coach hadn't given up either.

Switzerland are in trouble and could very well be on their way out of the tournament by the time they play Germany or maybe not. As I have shown you previously, the Swiss have surpassed Scotland in the Euro, and have gotten the better of Hungary in their recent matches. However even if Switzerland has a chance against those two, Germany are a different ballgame entirely. Although, I have to add. Coaching can make a difference. Only that, Switzerland’s coach, Murat Yakin, is very much under fire and not many people, including the Swiss fans have much confidence in his leadership.

Murat Yakin’s employment came off the back of an explosive Euro tournament, which saw the country reaching their highest-ever stage at the Euro. The coach who represented Switzerland as a defender from 1994 to 2004 had a chance to steer the team in another direction. The coach was able to help the team qualify out of the World Cup group stages with his trusted 4-2-3-1 formation, which gave the fans confidence that they were on to something. The feeling was that Switzerland would continue that form for the Euro qualifying stages too, since they had a very easy group. Well, famous last words, anyone.

The Frankfurt Arena, AKA The Waldstadion, currently known as Deutsche Bank Park for sponsorship purposes, is a retractable roof sports stadium in Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany. This Stadium is the home stadium of the german football club Eintracht Frankfurt and was opened in 1925 and has since been modernized several times.
