Michael Bolton, brought a such depth of feeling, of romance to this song “To Love Somebody”, that I wanted to match it with Lee’s depth of feelings for Amanda. There, I made this video around “Mission of Gold”, when Amanda got shot. When Lee was so worried for his new bride’s life.

This hospital bed scene was filmed one day after Kate had finished her chemotherapy treatments and it’s why the show had to schedule her scenes around her treatments. It’s also why her role was reduced toward the end of season 4 and Amanda was seen in clips with small amounts of time. Her role was greatly reduced for this reason. The writers had to rewrite stories at the last minute if Kate had not been feeling good that day. It’s why Kate looks so ill in this scene because she was really ill in real life from the effects of chemotherapy. Only the executive producer of SMK knew Kate had breast cancer and was doing chemotherapy for it during season 4. The show was canceled because of her health. After the end of season 4 she concentrated on her health and then had breast cancer again two years later in 1989. She concentrated for several years on her health after having a mastectomy in 1989.
