A pair of sisters has been watching an old man sell vegetables by the road. They watched as people walk past him without giving him any attention. They were heartbroken when they saw the old man being told to move. He hasn't even finish selling his vegetables yet. Now he has to move to a place where he's even less likely to be seen by potential customers.
They approached him at his new spot. Asking if they could have two of his green onions. But they told the old man that she doesn't have money on her right now, could she send someone to give him the money later after she gets home. The old man agreed right away. The girl joked that "aren't you scared I don't return?". The old man replied, "So what if you don't return?". The girl asked the old man if he has made enough money today. The old man said that as long as he can afford one bowl of noodles or rice he's can survive, that's all he needs.
It's clear that the girl is very compassionate. She asked him about his shoes and whether it's his because it looked too big on him. It turns out, the man has injury to his feet. He purposefully wear larger shoes to ease the pain. But sometimes he still wake up in the middle of the night from the pain.
The girl then asked if he has seen a doctor to which the old man replied "No". Because he's too afraid of what the cost of seeing a doctor may be. He thinks he won't be able to afford the bills. The girls are young, they don't have a lot of money themselves so they couldn't help him there. But, they were determined to do what they could.
She told the old man that she was just teasing him when she told him she left her money at home. She told him that she'll buy everything from him. She even told him to keep the change. The old man was reluctant to accept the money at first saying he can't repay her kindness, but the girl assured him that it's easier to make money as a young person with more energy, and that taking care of himself would be enough repayment.
The old man thanked the girls and wished them well in their career and said that he hopes they will become very wealthy someday.
This story reminds us the importance of taking care of those in need around us. You can skip a day of coffee and give the money to the homeless person down the street. You can not buy one more pair of shoes so you can buy someone's grocery for a couple days. What doesn't cost you that much sacrifices can mean the whole world of difference to someone else.
