A brief timeline of Trump’s tariff policies

Trump said Monday night that tariffs of 25 percent on Mexican and Canadian goods and 10 percent on Chinese merchandise would be aimed at halting an “invasion” of drugs and migrants into the United States. His pick for “border czar,” former Immigration and Customs Enforcement director Tom Homan, was set to travel to the U.S.-Mexico border later Tuesday.

“This Tariff will remain in effect until such time as Drugs, in particular Fentanyl, and all Illegal Aliens stop this Invasion of our Country! Both Mexico and Canada have the absolute right and power to easily solve this long simmering problem. We hereby demand that they use this power, and until such time that they do, it is time for them to pay a very big price!” Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, his social media site.

“To stop drugs coming into the country”

Yeah, I don’t think drug dealers pay tariffs…

Funny thing is that it's not China, Mexico or Canada who are paying for the tariffs. It's the American people. Too bad the average American doesn't know what a tariff or toll is.

The only ones these tariffs are going to hurt is the people.

Why is JD Vance asking Trump about his policies? Isn't he supposed to know???

I mean, the tariffs on Mexico did stop drugs from crossing the boarder. But they were pharmaceutical. That’s what killed my little dog that had congestive heart failure. He couldn’t get his meds and his little enlarged heart couldn’t go on.

Step 1: Create a problem to solve
Step 2: fix problem
Step 3: take credit for fixing problem
Step 4: use cabinet members as scape goats
Step 5: apply more orange paint to face
Step 6: see step one for additional guidance...

Literally everyone is saying how bad an idea this is and yet it'll probably still happen. Or he'll get bored in a week and ruin something else on a whim

I really hope that he puts a tariff on Columbia and Brazil so when the coffee gets more expensive and we can’t grow it anywhere in the US other than Hawaii, people will realize that he’s got dogshit economic policies and that the juice they need to get through the day is 20% more expensive. Maybe even around 24% or more actually since there needs to be 20% added to the value of the initial 20% to make it exactly the same profit margins

Im still trying to understand how tariffs on legal imports would stop the drug trade
