Thank you for this excellent demonstration and explanation! I have been using your recipe and have captured many moths. None found in our hives.

Great idea to use a soldering iron instead of cutting the holes. Love it!

Great idea as I ferment cabbage and all types of produce! Did I mention I am a beekeeper in NE Florida.

They seem to catch a lot of moths. Also works for yellow jackets. I melt 1” hole in side with a piece of tubing(or a socket, brass hose end, or whatever) heated over stove or handheld propane torch. I also melt a 1/4 “ hole in top, push the cord through and knot it to hang it up. Just variations on same theme.

How long does the fermentation process take? Just found moths in the box I store frames in and a few flying around

Does the trap actually attract them to the hive where they may not otherwise have been?

Even easier than a soldering iron hole is to simply unscrew the lid.
Bam.
Done.
That's what I do.
I catch a ton of moths...speaking of which, need to make a few more tomorrow!

It would be good if you showed us that it works. However, I've got such a problem that it's worth a try.

I didn't think wax moths were a problem in healthy hives

Why don't you add the result or video of the moths attracted?
