Facebook, China, and the Whistleblower No One Can Ignore

A whistleblower just accused Meta (Facebook’s parent company) of compromising American national security — and barely anyone is talking about it. So I watched the full congressional hearing… so you don’t have to.

📍Who: Sara Wynn-Williams, former Director of Public Policy at Facebook
📍 What: Testified before the U.S. Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime & Counterterrorism
📍 Why it matters: She claims Meta knowingly enabled Chinese surveillance and censorship, even looping in dissidents living in America at the request of the Chinese Communist Party.
📍 How far it went: Meta engineers raised alarms. Meta leadership ignored them. And Facebook? It shut down dissident voices and may have exposed U.S. user data to a foreign adversary — all in pursuit of business opportunities in China.

Sara Wynn-Williams also alleges Meta helped China compete with U.S. firms in AI development, quietly handed over data via new Hong Kong terms of service, and actively suppressed her ability to speak publicly — threatening her with $50,000 fines for every “disparaging” comment.

This isn't just a story about tech policy. It's about how corporate greed, surveillance capitalism, and foreign authoritarianism intersect in the worst possible ways.

If true, this isn’t just unethical. It’s a national security threat.

Putting shareholder value over national security sounds about right for most companies these days.

She also points out that the head counsel (presumably a lawyer) lied under oath to congress.

At this point we should be asking if Mark Zuckerberg could be guilty of treason.

I worked at a very large company that specialized in one form of social media. I left recently in 2025. During my tenure, this company was working very hard to "open up China" and get a foothold for our tech product. The number of special hoops we had to jump through to even get permission to offer our products was incredible.

Looking at it dispassionately, I, for one, could not see where any profit potential was. Management only saw the HUGE population of China, and assumed that any piece of that would garner profits. No thought was given to the fact that few of the people in China had enough income to worry about. The forced-release of our source code and databases? Ignored.

Big companies are so star-struck by the billion people that they ignore all the red flags. AND - their stock holders ( Black Rock, Fidelity, etc. ) all seem to force them into supplication to the CCP.

It's nauseating.

Nothing would piss off Meta more than us buying a copy of her book, I just did

So when do we get to start holding these traitors accountable?

Someone I know has recently quit a very senior ethical role at Meta, they weren't being allowed to do their job.

This is HUGE, this needs to be shared with the public a lot more. Thanks, Ryan!

She had better consider her own personal security. Meta may or may not be a threat, but the CCP is.

Break up Facebook. Seriously. Have the FTC grow some balls and break them up.

" The line between advertising info and targeting package is razor thin, we often use the same data. " What I always suspected, but still the most terrifying sentence I have heard all week.

Indeed.💯 If they are such advocates for free speech, why are they trying to silence her.💯💯💯

Dude that last thing she said was probably the hardest line ever dropped in that room. I played it back like 10x like it was an instant replay in football holy shit. Idk why but I felt the need to yell “BARS!!” When she said that 😂😅

Can't say I'm surprised. People don't realize just how easily they are manipulated by social media. It can even come from secondary exposure via those who are influenced by them.
