Watch this video for an overview of the key benefits and exclusions of Parts & Garage Cover, also known as Breakdown Repair Cover.

*TRANSCRIPT*

So what exactly does Parts and Garage Cover (also known as Breakdown Repair Cover) do? Well, when you break down…most of the time, we can get you going again in about 30 minutes.

But sometimes that means replacing a part or, if something big’s gone kaput, it’s going to need more than we can pack into the van. And that’s where Parts and Garage Cover comes in. It’ll cover spare parts we use at the roadside or work that’s done in a garage.

Which garage? Well we’ll either recommend one from our network or, depending on your level of cover, you can choose. But either way we’ll get you there. Then, once the fault has been diagnosed and the repairs authorised by us, their mechanics will get started on getting you up and running again.

And when all the big work has been done you’ll only be out of pocket for a tiny £35 excess. Not bad eh? Especially when you think that sorting out a starter motor can sting you for over £200 or getting a turbo fixed can cost £300 plus.

All in all, Parts and Garage Cover adds up to a pretty big saving - in fact, it’ll cover up to £500 - including parts and labour.

And don’t worry, there’s no limit on mileage or age – just because your car can remember Take That the first time round doesn’t mean it isn’t covered. You can also make 5 claims a year or, if you hold joint or family membership, 6 claims a year. Plus up to 4 vehicles registered at the same property can be covered on a single policy. Which means Parts and Garage Cover can look after pretty much the whole family… apart from the dog. Sorry.

Is there some small print? Well yeah, but only a little bit. Let's take a peek under the bonnet at the fine-tuning.

Well there’s no surprise Parts and Garage Cover is only for Members. If you cancel your membership your cover will stop.

You also have to have called us out for when a sudden electrical or mechanical fault means you can’t start or continue your journey. You can’t just pop into a garage because the radio or the air-con is on the blink.

We need details of your car - or the cars - you’re covering, so it’s important that if you do change your vehicle you let us know. But when it comes to changes you can make up to 3 car changes in any one policy year. Although when you buy a car there is a 14 day no-claim exclusion period, think of it like running in.

And it pretty much goes without saying that all cars must be taxed, MOT’d, insured and serviced in line with manufacturers guidelines – basically show it some love. And please keep those service invoices handy in case we need them as part of a claim.

That’s about it, apart from one last thing. I’m afraid Parts and Garage Cover can’t be used for business vehicles. So taxi drivers, driving instructors, couriers and ice-cream van guys - I’m afraid it’s not for you. Shame because I love ice cream… especially with sprinkles.

I’ve just taken out cover wisely as my 18 year old Clio Diesel is now at 225, 000 miles! I can mend most things but on a holiday that’ll be no good!

Hi, Would an auxiliary/serpentine belt, or a hose leak be covered as part of the turbo/intercooler system?

Iv been covered about 18 months now. No issues. My question is regards claim amount. Let’s say next month a fully covered part breaks. Everything is in order and it’s something you would pay out for. What if the cost of repair is £6/7/8/900 do you pay the maximum of £500 and I make up the rest? Or is it a case of it’s over price cap so I’m on my own? Thanks

The £500+ cover for Parts & Labour, is it per-claim, or the total annual amount AA will pay?
