Elizabeth Holmes, the CEO of Theranos, escorted CNN Chief Medical Correspondent Dr. Sanjay Gupta around her famously secretive research and development lab.

'The Dropout' offers an eye-opening view of Elizabeth Holmes and Theranos
by Brian Lowry, CNN

(CNN) Elizabeth Holmes has been a source of fascination for many since glimpsing the husky-voiced, wide-eyed persona she affected in Alex Gibney's documentary "The Inventor: Out for Blood in Silicon Valley." Amanda Seyfried nails all of that in "The Dropout," a slick Hulu docuseries devoted to Holmes' rise and Shakespearean fall, as well as the gender dynamics at play throughout.

Boasting an inordinately good cast in even relatively minor roles, the series adopts an unexpectedly sympathetic posture toward Holmes, at least in the early going, as she seized on the idea of improving the blood-testing process before dropping out of Stanford to pursue her vision.
Part of that ambition, it's surmised, stemmed from watching her father's struggles thanks to working at Enron, although she clearly derived the wrong anything-to-win lesson from that experience.

Elizabeth Holmes' No. 2 and ex-boyfriend is about to have his day in court:

She should’ve gone into PR or marketing. She clearly has the talent to say anything while saying nothing

The fact that she tries to blame the errors on the personnel and leadership while maintaining that the devices worked perfectly despite that being exactly the opposite of the actual truth is sickening. Those people worked with extreme guilt and frustration to try to make her dream come true, and she threw them under the bus.

Maybe if she took more than two chemical engineer courses, she would've learned the difficulty and improbability of conducting 200-something blood tests with just a few drops of blood.

She doesn't seem to answer anything directly.

The impact Theranos has had on blood testing companies is still relevant today. Because of how ridiculous the claims Theranos made, investors who didn't have the medical or technical knowledge unfortunately fell for the snake oil. All investment money for the blood testing market went to Theranos, meaning that companies who were making real blood testing kits that were trying to realistically improve the current equipment weren't getting any funding, because Theranos took it all away. Then, because so many investors got burned by Theranos since they were lying about the technology, blood testing companies still have trouble collecting funds because Theranos scared all the investors away from the industry since they now view it as a scam.

She claims one moment that they "didn't have the right leadership in place" but then claims they've got the best people in charge of investigating the problems.... "I'm not the lab director" -- "But you are the CEO." Good job there, Dr. Gupta.

She is an insane sociopath, BUT i am impressed by her amazing ability to speak. She uses words and answers question like a public relations professional. She would have gone miles in politics. Wow!

Holmes is wasting her natural talent. Instead of running this fraudulent company, she ought to be voicing a young Darth Vader in the next two Star Wars movies.

What she said about not having the right leadership in the lab is such a huge insult to Ian G.

When she calls her investors "sophisticated" at 5:00, she's not complimenting them, she's establishing a defense. It's a legal term. A sophisticated investor is one who is considered to be financially savvy enough to basically perform their own due diligence.
