Nice! I started using mine for golf. I was blown away by how good it is as a golf assistant on the course. Very feature rich. I should do a video on just the golf side of it.

Thanks for making and sharing this excellent comparison video. I have the Sony Smartwatch but, as you mentioned, hadn't found any videos that compare these 2 side by side. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for the comment! Yes, after you root it, all of the bluetooth pairing and notifications still work. You can even bluetooth tether (works with some Android apps) to provide constant internet access to the watch from your phone.

Ive had my motoactv for a year now and it's great. I paid $150 at Best Buy for it. The updates are great and I use it for running, cycling, stair climber, and crossfit.

Yup, will work just fine. They actually just updated the Sony Smartwatch firmware a few weeks ago, adding many new watch faces and streamlined notifications.

Thanks! After a month or so of going back and forth, I use the Sony daily and am happy. I have a Pebble on the way too, so I will post a new vid when I get it.

Honestly, today I only use the Sony. The Moto is really cool, and great for showing off the full Android mode, but the notification system is primitive. The Sony excels at notifications (use the WatchIt app), and that's what I care about the most from a smart watch. Also, from a fashion standpoint, the Sony is much more versatile (put any strap on it). As for future watches, it can only be done right (IMO) with deeper OS support. Hoping Google brings a card based system like Glass to a watch.

sir will sony work without a phone??? After unboxing it, when we on the smartwatch, will it contain some apps like music player, facebook, twitter on it??? Or we have to install all the apps via android phone???

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you care about notifications and simplicity, go with the Sony all the way. If you care about the fitness tracking, and ability to run full Android (at the cost of battery life), then the Moto. Even having full Android is not very useful without a constant network connection, which kills the battery in mere hours. You can get both used on eBay, play with them, and then sell one. You probably won't lose any money.

Hey man, where's the video link on how to root the Motoactv???

Yeah, even after rooting it is still primitive. I had full notifications working through the rooted Android environment (a very complicated system using an app called Augmented Smartwatch), but doing that required a full time active internet connection on the watch. That meant keeping wifi on and wifi hotspot on my phone on all the time. The Moto battery would die in less than 5 hours. The phone battery would also be impacted.

The MotoACTV is a standalone Android device, so everything works without a cell phone paired via bluetooth, except for notifications (text messages, incoming calls, etc).

Hands down motoactv is the best fitness watch out better than any Nike, Garmin or Timex and is a pretty good smart watch.

GPS anywhere. No wifi needed. I use it golfing, completely standalone, no data connection or anything needed.
