The second single from the album, Stand Together, is a song I started in Cuba, finished in Germany, and produced on Turtle Island. It is about ending war and the torture, internment and subjugation of refugees and creating a culture that recognizes our common humanity over national borders.

This video is a compilation of photos of friends in Cuba and the making of the album Stand Together in Habana and Connecticut.

STAND TOGETHER

Some people want freedom
Some people want war
We all want love
It opens every door
Some people have vision
Some are in the dark
We the people are calling from our hearts

Stand Together
We can’t stand alone
Not one border will bring us home
Stand Together
Hear the helpless cry
Let the ivory tower crumble
And let peace rise

Now we’re living in concentration camps
The people of Honduras,
Mexico, Guatemala deserve a chance
Will we watch like World War II
Or we will rise up
And say, Me Too
We’ll follow leaders that stand for truth
We’re all equals in spite of what we did to you
Make reparations, feel the hurt inside
Fight for justice and never turn a blind eye

Now the bells are ringing in Berlin
Saying we won’t let fascism win
We’re gonna let the refugees in
Let refugees in!

Stand Together
We can’t stand alone
Not one border will bring us home
Stand Together
Hear the helpless cry
Let the ivory tower crumble
And let peace rise

We’ll fight for freedom
Cause this is war
Torture and cages will be no more
We raise our voice, We raise our hearts
We the people have been singing from the start

Stand Together
We can’t stand alone
Not one border will bring us home
Stand Together
Hear the helpless cry
Let the ivory tower crumble
And let peace rise!

Stand Together is an album recorded in Ojalá by Olimpia Calderon Arias and in EGREM by Merlin Lorenzo. Ojalá is the studio of my songwriting idol, Silvio Rodriguez, and EGREM is Cuba's national music production company. Both are in La Habana, Cuba. I also recorded songs in this collection, including Stand Together, with Kala Farnham at Signature Sounds by Mark Thayer in Connecticut, where I recorded Rise Up. This collection of songs is an album about love, standing together across borders and ideological differences, and transforming suffering into joy.

Stand Together includes Spanish songs, Fantasma (Ghost), I co-wrote in Cuba (I am the daughter of a Colombian mother) with Dariel Milan and Jeniffer Dalía Morales Rodriguez and Alcanzando La Rosa (Reaching for the Rose), a song I co-wrote with Gareth Dunlop in Belfast and translated with Cuban drummer, El Pulpo and friend, Josue Taboada. It also includes a love song co-written at Folk Alliance International with Lilli Lewis called Montreal and a song called Swimming with Dolphins co-written with Alan Roy Scott, recorded with Cuban piano great Alejandro Falcon.

The first single, My Choice supports Whole Woman's Health, fighting for reproductive justice in the USA:
