Evening walks are an almost daily thing for us. There's times on the homestead and our tasks bring us in different directions - Rachel may be in the garden for hours, and Todd may be off mowing the back pasture. So setting aside some time to reconnect with each other, and check in how everything is doing, is something that's important to us. So come along with us this time. We'll make a up quick Mule, and head off on a quick little tour ♥

Last night, my husband decided he wanted a garden tour.. he has paid no attention since he made my raised boxes last year, and helped me put up the trellis's this spring. It was so fun to show him around, and show him what is growing! We had a fun, relaxing walk around the garden.. love this!

If you don't want to thin the pears you can use a forked branch or a long board to hold the branch up. The weight of the fruit will break the branch. I saw at least 3 that needed propping.

I would leave that row. It looks lovely and it should help keep the farmers sprays and such from entering your property

With your blackberry patch, invest in some temporary fencing and get your goats on to it. They will make short work of those brambles

My man and I started "Date Night" when the lockdowns started. We dress up and make cocktails and have a great evening just enjoying alone time together. We decided to keep doing it as its been great for our relationship. Thank you for all you do ❤️

My 5 y/o peach tree was promising the best yield ever til I walked out a couple of weeks ago to find 1/3 of it split from the weight of the peaches. Broke my heart! After cutting & clearing the broken limbs, I then climbed a ladder and thinned every branch to just 1-3 peaches per. Sacrificed a bushel to hopefully get a peck. You might want to thin that pear limb before it splits.

After a long day, we go for a jump in the cold pool, then a nice walk. Perfect!

My husband and I do the same thing.
We love to reflect on our accomplishments of the days and years.

Thanks for all the sharing. I have two pear trees that are about 12 years old. Last year, they were full of pears from the very top to the bottom. That was 2020. Every year before that, by the end of July, the pears had disappeared. I looked it up and it turns out that squirrels eat the pears before they even get ripe. This year it was the same. Pears, and then suddenly, no pears. I'm just really glad that I canned lots of them last year and still have lots of pints and half pints. I think that God kept a hedge around them last year, and I gave lots of them away. I don't plan on having a garden next year, the Shmita year! Love you guys!

When I had peach trees & apple trees I would plant garlic & onions under them to keep from getting leaf curl & a lot of insects. I read about doint that back in the 70s & stopped having those problems once started planting them. I seldom pulled the garlic or onions - just let them "re-seed" themselves each year until they approached the dripline & then I would harvest them... Some of the best we ever had.

My grandmother didn’t want to give up any of her pears either, so she would steak them by cutting branches with a Y shaped at the top and rest a heavy branch in each one about halfway along the branches. The branches wouldn’t bend all the way to the ground or break.

It’s the simple things that are such a blessing. I love time in the porch swing in the late evening or early morning.
