Wow, I can't believe they're getting rid of this feature! I actually use it to interact with any subscribers that happen to message me privately.

..there was a time when this function was really useful, then they decided to hide it, and it became difficult to manage, and youtube said, given that you don't use it anymore, you don't need it, let's eliminate it ... it would have been very useful instead, if it had been properly managed.

This is really amazing. Many people who haven't been on Youtube for very long won't know this, but it used to be that you could send private messages to people and would receive a notification (similar to the little "bell", in the upper-right corner of the screen), whenever you'd received a message.

Around 12, Youtube hid the private messaging feature away in the "Creator Studio", which could be accessed by going to your profile, then going to your "Video Manager", then the "Creator Studio" and finally your "Inbox". As you might imagine, many people had trouble even finding their inbox and even if you did use it, Youtube had removed the notification feature, so neither you or the other person would ever know when you had received a message.

I must say, I find it amazing that Youtube would have the balls to say they removed the private messaging feature because people were not using it. I WONDER WHY PEOPLE WERE NOT USING IT, COULD IT HAVE SOMETHING TO DO WITH IT BEING REALLY DIFFICULT AND AWKWARD TO USE?

If Youtube hadn't butchered the messages away in their new designs people would have used it. Like the channelcomments whic died. But clearly those community-actions weren't wanted. Good job YT.

Why should you care? Well you SHOULD care!! Because if you're not a newbie and actually has been on YouTube from the beginning you would know that private messaging was always as a way for YouTubers to communicate and a lot of important information was exchanged that way. So if you ever needed to reference any old information you have private messaging to save you. But not anymore. And the only reason that people stop using it is because instead of having a message button on your channel, they hid it away in "studio creator."

Why is it important? Because if they did that to private messages then one day your favorite feature may not be around either.

I haven't really used it since like 2012. It's been nice to know it's there, but, after a while it became a hassle and other ways to contact creators were much easier.

My adult daughter and I used to share videos with each other all the time on Youtube. Now, I've noticed she wants to share videos through instagram more now. Bad move Youtube. You don't see instagram doing away with private sharing.

I happen to use and like the idea of Private Messaging on this site and I wish they could bring it back. I want to use it to talk with Big Timer Youtubers that respond to commoners’ comments like EmpLemon and Saberspark.

It's a "feature" so hidden that most people don't even know about it :) Probably I will not miss it.

I rarely used it, it didnt even work properly- mostly spam anyways- adios not gonna miss you

so basically you gotta find one of their random unrelated videos and reply to them on their video... and if you have a link to send them, forget about it, the link will mark you permanently as spam on their channel, as they'll never know you even commented to even check the spam folder to free you.
