The thing about rowing boats, except for canoes and kayaks, is that you row the exact opposite of how you are doing it and you can't see where you're going. You pull on the oars and it's a lot easier to row but you can't see where you're going.
I went down the Humber River in a small inflatable boat like that back in the !970's, I was with a girl and went in down by the Old Mill subway station. What a day that turned into...the current took us out into Lake Ontario and it was about 11:00pm at night when we made it out of there....we came out at Sunnyside Park, in the dark and we left that little boat there and never looked back...what a nightmare!
The current was too strong for me with the little oars and when we both took one it kept going sideways, if I eased up on my oar we were going back out....the girl was crying and I was almost joining her!
Then, it finally dawned on me that I might make it to shore again if I went on a long angular route instead of trying to go straight back in, that's how I ended up at Sunnyside....if you try a Canoe, look up how to paddle those, they're really easy when you know that the person in the back steers and the one at the front paddles and leaves the steering to the one at the back...otherwise you will be zig zagging all over the place and going nowhere.
