Fabric specialists Polartec supply ultra-tech materials for use in clothing from brands like Rapha, Sportful and Castelli. We caught up with CEO Gary Smith for an explanation of what goes into these clever layers.

I don't know about Gary, but Andy Vecchione was a great CEO as was Aaron Feuerstein who built first Malden Mills then Polartec into one of the best companies in the world with a long history of being a very social and environmentally conscious company, who treated their employees very well. I hope that's still the case.

Marketing nonsense. Layers help but if you keep moving on as bike in UK you'll stay warm. No matter what youre wearing, if youre out long enough in rain you'll get wet.
