There is also a 'hall of records' that was carved out behind the heads that is closed off to the public. I dont think any 'records' or documents were ever stored there. Its sometimes referred to as a 'secret room' which it is not a secret- but it was recently revealed that there were 'secret meetings' held in that part of the monument in the early 1900's

Unfinished or not, it’s still freaking amazing

Funds were diverted to our WWII allies, so government funding was trickling to an end. Also, the rock further down is too fragile to carve and vulnerable to crumbling. The hall of records was a "side project" that the artist worked on unbeknownst to supporters until they found out. They weren't happy, but let him continue the main sculpture. It would've been cool to see the entire mountain carved out, but that will never happen. The work is declared "finished" and so it will stand until the end of its time.

So I could invest 17m, create a cool tourist monument, and then rake in the money. At $1 per tourist look how quickly you make your money back. 😂 I can’t wait to be rich and pay for a giant pyramid to be constructed

Fun fact number one Thomas Jefferson was originally supposed to be on the right of George Washington but because The Rock were Thomas Jefferson was supposed to be wasn't strong enough so they move into the left

Another interesting thing I learned was that it's also not the finished product. Apparently, it will look it's "best" in about 20 to 30 thousand years. Meaning, we really are just barely in the beginning of it's life. lmao
