This is NOT the recommended hardware for a FreeNAS device. You MUST have a motherboard and RAM that support ECC otherwise you risk data corruption due to the way the ZFS file system works. Visit our FreeNAS forum (forums.freenas.org) if you want the correct recommended hardware and how you should organize your drives because one size does not fit all and some people actually value their data.

The good thing about this video is it shows how easy it is to build a system.

Well done for getting it running. I fear you are going to need a lot more luck to keep it running and not lose any data. Anyone following this and thinking 'that looks like a good idea' just remember one word - BACKUP BACKUP BACKUP :D

You really need to change the CPU/MOBO/RAM. FreeNAS needs ECC with ZFS file system. If you don't there is a chance of loosing the entire array. It's a gamble. The best bang for the buck if you don't need a bunch of power for extra features like a Plex server would be an Intel Celeron. Then get a server or workstation board. I like Supermicro for these kinds of builds. And for the amount of storage, you really need at least 16GB of ECC RAM.

If you are using non ecc memory...why not using open media vault or something like this?
ZFS and non ecc memory ist such a good idea

Do you use any kind of network card now ? and can you make a speed test ? i got a huge problem with Samba on a linux System, the process just runs on one core. so the speed is realy low...

And why the hell are you using RAID Suicide RAID makes using this as your personal cloud kind of pointless. One drive fails all of your data is toast.

what about the 8 gigs of ram for the os and the recommended 1 pr terabytes of storage for freenas.that and they didn't suggest you use amd system's.regardless if it works awesome and congrats on a useful tool in safe storage and nice build walkthrough

Also should have used the AMD64 version so you get 64 bit.

Ti consiglio vivamente di rimuovere il video. L'hardware da te usato è davvero sconsigliato per freenas. Build sbagliata dall'inizio alla fine. Ciao!
