C-130 never ceases to amaze! Simply can not kill this bird. Been flying with the world's air forces since the 50s and still has decades of service life left. Hell, I believe that the USN contemplated utilizing these for carrier ops, there is even a vid floating around showing a C-130 making a carrier landing.

I flew all over Thailand on Hercs in 1971, just bumming rides on my days off from the Ubon MARS station. Can't beat that for free quality entertainment.

Another skill the C-130 can add to it's list of capabilities.

I've flown on these wonderful planes many times. A Marine Corps 130 flew me out of "Nam" and then afterwards, I spent a lot of time working defense projects and we flew to various destinations with equipment and material so...if it had to be delivered anywhere in the world and at anytime under any type of weather condition then the Hercules was choice. From the South Pole to the Sahara Desert or small atolls in the Pacific, these planes serviced them all. The sound of their turboprops were unique and music to our ears as we welcomed their arrival with fresh vegetables, fruit and letters from home,

Thanks for sharing. C 130 was used here in Congo for the post conflict humanitarian airlift. Twas very helpful in delivering items needed to assist displaced people. I was thrilled to visit the cabin when the crew allowed me in.

When I was in the Naval Air Training Command around 50-years ago, this was the first Aircraft I ever saw back away from a Hanger under it's own power. A crew member stood on the ground with a long cord and headset a little distance in front of the Marine C-130 I think it was giving directions. I knew then, our country had a great Aircraft.

To be fair those beaches on the west coast of Denmark are pretty hard (for sand on a beach). lol Cars will also drive on them. The sand is quite compressed so it's not one of those extremely soft beaches that people may assume it is. :)

It's the Royal Danish Air Force, and they're simply doing it as an exercise. Being able to land in various places is obviously quite useful. :P

Gotta luv the "Mighty Herc"!!! A versatile work-horse. It "pulled its weight in gold" during Nam (I was in the Air Force 1968-1971) and it is still "pulling its weight" today!

I flew C-130's from the late 60's to late 70's. Thanks to being a depot acceptance pilot, I've flown 17 MDS's for US, two foreign countries, and one civilian model. That included the very first C-130A with the old Roman Nose style. I believe I may have flown one of the longest combat missions to be completed on three engines. While flying a sixteen hour (non refueled) mission in 7th ACCS, call sign Alleycat, over the DaNang -Hue area, our number three just shut down. We had to drift down to an altitude we could hold on three engines. Knowing we didn't have a replacement aircraft and having good weather and two alternate airfields that I could divert to enroute, I decided we could continue on three engines. We ended up flying 12.4 hours on three engines and completed the full mission. With 75+ combat missions this event was recognized with being awarded the Distinguish Flyiitng Cross. I have no way of confirming it, but I have never heard of anyone else flying a combat mission that long on three engines.
