Useful info, especially when first making a decision about medication options.

I have one quibble, though. I've taken all 3 of the usual stimulants since I was first diagnosed over 30 years ago. My son was also dx'ed then, at age 8. Although he has been chronically underweight all his life -- and of course he was much smaller than I was then -- and I'm fat, he consistently needed a higher dosage than I did of both Ritalin and dexedrine. Our psychiatrist then explained it had more to do with how it worked in our brains versus how large our bodies were.

Eventually, once it became commonly available, I settled on Adderall and it has worked well for me for over 20 years.

I might start treatment next week and my doctor told me to research ritalin. She said it is the only adhd drug my country has in the system right now. Pray it works for me

Myself and my son diagnosed used Vyvanse. It's interesting that we both notice every day it seems to work a little differently. Some days the anxious feeling is stronger, some days the appetite suppressant seems to feel different. We try to start it the same time on a full stomach of protein. As a woman's fertility cycle can affect it I'm not sure why my son finds the same.

Hey Dr Mirza,

You say that Adderall lasts longer in your system than Ritalin. If the dosages are the same doesnt that make Adderall stronger in general?

If you want to be taken seriously, that background isn't doing you any favors.

Dear Dr. Mirza,
How come different brands of methylphenidate have different maximum doses (despite having the same active ingredient)?
In Spain, the maximum dose of Concerta is 108 mg and for Rubifen SR it’s 60 mg. 🐪🌴🏺
