I’m in NW Indiana. My fall treatment of Apivar failed completely. We got hammered with mites through Sept/Oct with treatment onboard. Took several of our colonies down to levels that likely will not survive winter. We have Formic Pro on now and will OAV before consolidating where needed and buttoning them up for winter.

Ian, Varroa IS our #1 problem.
Our #2 problem is an outrageous lack of URGENCY to solve the problem.
Look at the many research efforts funded by generous grants.
They will all become moot soon if we don't get our act together.
Academia, research, industry, and beekeepers have less and less time as we doddle along to get a handle on this.
Meanwhile, the ship is sinking and the only advice we get from "leadership" is more of the same.
It's time to PULL OUR HEAD'S OUT and recognize problem #1 and get to work!!!
Thank you for your excellent post!

Great video as always. Thank you for that.
Perfect temperature level for treatment, bees are not in tight cluster. Problem. Too many mites. Time to change something during summer. Frame bait, drone frames, maybe, for cutting on 14th day. Randy's OAE? Apivar is not enough, especially for only ten days. Brood is in 21 day interval. APIGARD, maybe. You are great beekeeper, you'll manage this. 👍Good luck.

I see all that vapor coming out of the corners and gaps, all I can think of is the song "smoke on the water"

Have you heard about the Pig Water Absorbent Pads. you soak them with 50/50 water and oxalic then dry and fold them into the frames for months. Im going to give it a try next October.

We have had the amitraz apivar strips in since August just been doing some oxalic acid vaporising and I've been surprised just how many Verroa are still in The Hives many is 200 falling on the bottom board is it worth spending hundreds of pounds on a treatment that isn't as effective as oxalic acid.

Would you mind numbering your hives and know where each hive is in your store room and record where they are and is some places in the store room more deadly than other areas. Are the same areas deadtramental to hives stored in that spot. Such as extreme air flow which will chill a hive more than another spot. Thank you for all of your sharing.

Could you say where to purchase the exact equipment for oxcillic acid administration? How much oxcillic acid ( dose) per hive and how long per hive in seconds?

In your opinion did the Apivar miss a bunch of mites or was there a hatch off after?

I am having trouble breathing now, and was holding my breath every time you leaned down there lol

How many grams of oxalic acid per hive do you use?

Heard from one guy the University of Minnesota was testing some hives 20-30 mites per wash. This was worst year for mites so far. There expecting big winter losses for northern states.

How many treatments(series) whit oxalic acid do you apply in a year? Thank you and good luck!

Hi, how man grams are you using? And does leaving the entering holes have an effect on the treatment? Some people close the whole hive for 5-10 mins, which is extra work with wt towels etc. I was wondering if it is same effective. Greets from germany
