Kris Kristofferson wrote it in '69 and Roger Miller(King of the Road) was first to record it in '69. Also Kenny Rogers and the First Edition were second to record it also in '69 and so did Gordon Lightfoot also in '69. In 1970 Kristofferson recorded his debut album with 'Me and Bobby McGee', and on her last album 'Pearl' Joplin recorded it just before she died in 1970. Joplin and Kristofferson were an item in late '69 into '70. Janis taken all to soon 10/04/70 two weeks after Hendrix died and two weeks before Hendrix died Al 'Blind Owl' Wilson of Canned Heat died, all three were 27yrs. old. Kristofferson died this past September in 2024 at age 89. To all the great singers/songwriters/musicians R.I.P. 🙏
