This question came up during conversation with an acquaintance of mine and we went back and forth on the definitive answer to it.

I believe there is no true thing that defines you as a real business owner other than if you are achieving what you originally started a business for in the first place.

Literally if you own a business, you are by definition a business owner.

I know plenty of 'real' business owners who were in the red for the first few years while they figured things out. Then again, I also know one particular 'real' business owner who has managed to run everything he's ever tried to manage into the GROUND.

Robi, watching your videos is extremely relatable to me, I'm a year younger than you and i have mostly all of my equipment already that I've been accumulating for a few years, and my truck (an 05 6.0 DRW ironically, ) aside from an engine drive welder (i had a bobcat 250 and i sold it awhile back, derp) I have a full time job that i work 42 hours in 3 days time, so it literally leaves me half a week to do whatever i want to do.

I have 3G/4G D1.1, API 1104, and ASME section IX certs, but i love welding aluminum and reactive metals. I'm 100% ready to take the leap into being a business owner but i have one main question:

What are the steps to take with legally starting a business? What requirements do you have to meet? I get varying answers but i know it depends on the state you live.

Not sure if you've done a video on this but i couldn't find it if you did. I've been watching your stuff for the past 2 days straight just because its real life info and you remind me alot of myself in numerous ways.

Thanks for the help and keep it up buddy!

I know when my father worked construction, I traveled alot with him in the summer and he was talking to a guy we have all probably heard of (Sam Walton) and he said you were not really a successful business man unless you had went broke a few times. That comment always struck me as odd but I often wondered what he meant by it.

I think he was trying to say that until you get a handle on the management side you need to keep your cost at a minimum and pay attention to what is consuming the most cost. It seem to always be about managing percentages to him and that is why he became so successful. Just my own 2 cents though. Hopefully I never go broke to find out :)
