I borrowed my friend's city bike in Delft, Netherlands and thought I'd show you some of its features. Filmed May 2022.

I have a similar bike, I put on puncture proof tires 10 years ago, the only thing I have done to the bike is oil the chain a few times and replaced the lights once. Other than that it has been working great for 10 years and I use it daily.

For more info I can recommend the Not Just Bikes video on these "grandma" bicycles.

Fun fact : Although this is now often called a Dutch bike the original design is from Coventry. It was invented by Kemp Starley and first marketed as the Rover Safety Cycle around the 1900s.

I think the only thing I don't like about this bike from what I can see alone, are the handlebars. They just seem so unconventional and hard to get used to. With more of a standard kind of flat bar I'd love it nearly completely. The double men's horizonal tube, that's interesting! Is it for the sake of frame strength or aesthetics do you suppose? I'm guessing with the steel, but lacking gears, and derailers, and disk brakes, the weight might be around 30 pounds. Close to?

This bike is very modern bike with ugly welding to connect the pipes, unfortunately the good old gazelle or bavatus etc from the 80ties or 90ties are getting very rare.. and the female models are the best easy to get on an get off. I miss those bikes they peddled so light and no maintenance needed beside standard oiling and tyre changes.

This is just the grandma bike but for men. A transport bike would have more racks.
And saying the roads are well lit while sitting next to a path with no streetlights is funny 🤣

The bike is 1 year old and he had to change a tire?
lol wtf, I ride my bike daily for all sorts of things.... and then it takes me like 5 years or more to have to replace a tire, usually the back one.
The tire was probably Chinesium or some.

For as long as i know we never called it a grandma bike (omafiets), but a widow bike (weduwe). Because it was used by women whose husband died and they never learned how to ride a horse or how to handle a horse and carriage, or later how to drive a car.
*not about this bike

Ya got to step over that high bar every time you want to get on or off. No thanks.
