Education for Sustainability game methodology introduction

I am Sue Adams from Education for Sustainability. We are a schools environmental agency that works with schools to deliver environmental modules and workshops to students of all ages throughout Ireland. The objective of each workshop or transition year module is to interpret the environment into everyday life for students, to join the dots with global concepts and to provide them with the skills tools and knowledge to live more sustainably. We want every student to be able to identify themselves as global citizens and we want to empower them to take action in meaningful ways that has a positive impact on both themselves, their environment and their communities. It is our mission to motivate young people to be the change they want to see in the world and to provide them with the springboard knowledge and tools to do so.
Education for sustainable development is a crucial competence required for future generations and it is integral that young people understand the impacts that climate change will have on their futures. The methodologies we use include use game-based learning as an exciting and innovate way to implement this. We deliver workshops on a multitude of topics including climate change, biodiversity loss, fast fashion, plastic, energy, transport, food wate, sustainability and action projects. We run 8 week transition year modules that covers all of these topics but ends with an action project where by the group of students take action to make a change in their schools and community. A great example of an action project is a school going plastic free, building an outdoor classroom, a biodiversity garden, running swap shops and many more.
In this video series I will show some of the games that we play in the classroom. These games compliment the chosen topic of the lesson. They reinforce learning, are interactive and evoke critical thinking.
