Something possesses me to listen to this once in a while.

You can hear the 90s metal influences the ost has. I miss the days when games like this were considered "dangerous" or "forbidden" for kids and you were considered lucky if you had played them. Without the internet around to spoil things for everyone, they were shrouded in an air of mystery. You opened the game and were kind of afraid of what would come out of the box. Modern games will never achieve this feeling.

This comment section would have you think it’s simply nostalgia, but I bought D2R a year ago knowing NOTHING about the game or the franchise. Hell D2 was released years before I was even born. I picked it up on sale for the PS5 expecting very little- it was simply a heavily discounted title that I could add to my collection.

One day I was bored enough to give it a shot… and I became COMPLETELY ENTHRALLED with it. Went into it completely blind and it was such an unbelievable experience even compared to the games we have today. Truly a testament to the passion that went into making it. Wish I could experience it all over again

I think it was David Brevik who said Matt Uelmen pretty much forced everyone at the studio to listen to the music he was creating for this game. He was not taking no for an answer. Can you imagine what it was like to sit in the board room and hear the Tristram theme for the first time? I'd like to think it was pitch black other than some dimly lit candles and Matt had a hood on.

Christ, absolutely fucking amazing OST. I can't quite explain it but D2 OST sounds infinitely more mature and serious than other games. It even puts some movies to shame.

I would say this is one of the most iconic soundtracks ever. Listening to just 2 notes you can instantly tell its from DIABLO II. I remember hearing this for the first time. It is what made the game seem good at the time. If the game was identical but without this soundtrack I doubt it would have sustained the same popularity.

I've spent a lot of my childhood in this game. This is one of many soundtracks that I can listen to an instantly remember those better times

Rogue Encampment is honestly one of the best songs of all time. It gets the mood just right, and now it has the nostalgia factor. The guitar with the flanger is timeless.

Name one thing more perfectly atmospheric than this soundtrack for this game.

Deep down the Tristram theme is my favorite song. I hold it close to my heart. Good times.

Im spamming the comment section here but what the hell. This game is so simple yet so good. I played it 20 years ago and I reinstalled it last year and had the same fun (just single-player). What is interesting is that most of the times, players that started in these raw times ~2000 now only remind the concept of the game, not the game itself. A nostalgic approach one could say. But then you reinstall a game and there are plenty of problems, graphics, compatibility, lack of quality of life improvements etc. So you start to mod, somethings doesn't work as good, some good features from vanilla are removed etc. But Diablo ? Damn, this game is timeless. At least for me, it was good for todays standards 20 years ago.

Ok. It missed a respec button.

Anyway, today I finished writing my PhD thesis and more than a half, over last 3 months was written to this soundtrack. Damn, this is a masterpiece.

It's been more than 20 years and I still listen to this at least once every month. I don't do this on other soundtracks made by the same guy. I guess nostalgia also plays a part but this is next level work by him. He actually cared here.

My music for work. I am so used to this that it helps me focus. I guess 9432858498738942 hours of D2 were a good investment indeed

I can listen to entire soundtracks of nowadays games without a major emotional affection. With Diablo 2, however, the first five seconds of 'Monestary' is enough to send shivers down my spine.
