This approach is a perfect example of why you need to stay dialed in and ahead of the airplane at all times including being ready to fly an IFR approach down to minimums if necessary. This is especially true in Single Pilot jet operations which can be very challenging if you are not prepared. Staying one step ahead of the game is essential to conducting safe and reliable SP operations.

In this example, what started out as a VFR approach, ended up being an ILS down to minimums. 20 minutes after we landed the field was at 1000’ RVR and had to wait two hours to get back out. Setting up the active approach to the landing runway is part of my SOP which allows me to revert back to the instruments if necessary and also avoids any confusion or inadvertent landing in the wrong runway (or airport). The approach and airport on this flight was the ILS-15 approach at MMTO (8,500' field elevation). I hope you enjoy this brief but illustrative example.
