With interval arithmetic we compute with intervals as with numbers, which computes an error bound on the result. This leads to a form of symbolic-numeric computing, which is illustrated in a symbolic-numeric factorization of a polynomial in one variable. In a symbolic-numeric factorization we compute the roots with complex interval arithmetic. To conclude the chapter in the course on calculus, we illustrate the solution of a constrained optimization problem in SageMath.
