And you thought YOU were having a bad day? No. 3 engine fails...No. 4 engine fails...flaps hydraulics fail...landing gear hydraulics fail. "Is that all you gremlins got?" Nope. Brakes hydraulics fail...TWA forgot to tell you about the changes to the emergency brake system on the 049 model.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Fallon, Nevada. We hope you enjoyed your flight this evening and thank you for choosing TWA. Remember, Up, Up and Away with TWA!"

Thanks, Allec. 🤠

I got to see a Connie up close for the first time in 30 years last summer. Man, what a stylish bird.
Another great vid Allec!

Those Connies were tough old birds! My stepfather emigrated from Brazil on one; the #2 engine caught fire yet it kept flying. That fascinated him to the point he went to college and pursued a career in aviation, retiring from Lockheed in 2000.

I particularly enjoy these older stories. I’d never heard of this one before. When they decided not to go to Reno, I feared for the worst—amazing this came out so well.

Everyone made it out and even the aircraft flew again. A much better outcome than I was expecting. I would fly in a Connie.

Seeing the photos of this plane with it's wing completely tore off I can't believe they repaired and flew it again.

Hard to believe they repaired that one! Then again, TWA sometimes repaired airplanes with major damage that other airlines probably wouldn't have.

The pilot wasn't the first and certainly wasn't the last to get bitten a manufacturer's decision to change things up between different versions of the same model.

Another great video, Allec!! Keep up the good work!

I can’t believe they repaired the damage and put it back in service. Great video by the way, as always.

Back around 1960's we flew on a Connie from Lisbon, Portugal to New York City. Dad was stationed in Spain (USAF) and we lived there for a few years. I remember the ride, we had a short layover in the Azores for refueling before continuing to the USA. Seem to take forever to reach NYC. After arriving, the sound of those Connie engines rung in my mind for weeks.

I got to know an ex Connie pilot early in my flying career.. I remember him talking about oil losses on those engines.. it was clearly visible .. They only began to be concerned when the oil stopped leaking, an indication that they'd run out of oil :>) Such an elegant aircraft, would dearly loved to have flown it.

Beautiful plane. I remember flying on them in the '50s. Blue glow in the exhaust at night.

Thanks for posting this! The Connies are one of my favorite plane designs!

When the decision was made to continue on to their destination I was reminded of the joke where the captain tells the passengers because of the loss of the engine they will be 15 minutes late. The second engine fails and now they will be 30 minutes late. When the third engine fails they will be an hour late. Zeke tells his buddy, "If dat last motor don't run, we'll be up here all night."

I remember our Australian Qantas Constellations on final approach to our then International airport, Essendon, here in Melbourne from my backyard in the late fifties into the early sixties when a young kid and also remember a lot of those Connie’s coming in to land had an engine shut down in what seemed to be a regular basis! I later learned when I got older that those Wright Turbo Compounds were a highly strung and a bit temperamental and Qantas actually had a spare engine for them at selected ports of call in countries around the world for a quick change over if needed, especially flying the Pacific to the USA

Plane lacks a wing and suffered substantial body damage: "Plane was repaired and returned to service". Different times :D

I used to see Connies flying into Lasham airfield, England for servicing in 1962. It was the location of my school’s gliding club. They were beautiful planes to see - owned by Dan Air.

When I was in the air force, every body i knew that flew Connies loved them. They were known as the Cadillac of the Reciprocating Engine fleet. They used to say that if you walked under an engine, if you weren't drenched in oil, you needed to service it.
