Goodbye to our F10 M5 - Final thoughts, buying advice & F90 M5 comparison

With the arrival of our latest project car, an F90 M5 we've dubbed 'Lycan', it's time to say goodbye to our F10 M5.

Many of you will be familiar with this car, having owned it for 4 years, but most of it was before we started producing project car videos. It's been a great car, and in this video Imran reminisces about his time owning and modifying the car, and the many triumphs it achieved, not only in power and top speed, but also in practicality and family duties.

We also consider if the F90 M5 is really worth the money over a good F10 M5, as we're sure many of you own one, and who doesn't want the latest new shiny thing!

Nice video. The F10 M5 is the only real spiritual successor to the E39 M5. I had the E39 M5 for over 14 years and moved to a manual F10 M5 and I am in love with it. I never thought any M5 could be on par or match my much loved E39 M5. Reliability has been the same experience as yours, rock solid and no issues.

Loving my F10 awesome car all around and great value. Raced my friends new F90 and went toe to toe for a fraction of the price. Going to enjoy my F10 for 2-3 years and see how the F90 depreciates.

Great comparison - when I saw it was Imran, knew his comments would be valuable. I’m a fan of the understated appearance of the stock cars, especially when coupled with some subtle modifications

I had an F10 M5 year 2015 and I changed it for an F90, I configured it especially with ceramic brakes, seats with massager, Bang & Olufsen sound and other extras, I ordered it white and with a carbon fiber roof, but when it arrived and I was going to deliver, seeing it I did not like! The wheels, the spoilers and the lines were not what I expected. It was not the same as with the F10, where I admired every inch of its design lines. Finally I returned it, I did not buy it and I changed it for a black 750i with 20” wheels. I miss my M5 F10 for me, much more beautiful than the F90!

Awesome video as always . I have my f10 m5 2013 for 2 months now. Used it as a daily. It has 136 000km . It run perfectly so far . No oil consumption or comments. Thank you for encouraging me Imraan. Just curious why the usa videos show it as unreliable .

Great review. I like the fact that you used the car for everything. My beloved e46 330ci was totaled 2 weeks ago and I’m currently looking at the e39 M5. However, the looks and value ($43 to $49K in the U.S.) of the F10 M5 are moving it to the top of the list. Its beginning to look like the perfect garage mate for my wife’s F30 335i Msport!

Totally concur Imran. I sold my F10 as lack of traction was an issue I couldn't live with plus the interior was nothing special to look at (it is comfortable, well built and good quality materials, just lacks piazzas!)

Great video. Really useful as I am looking at F90s that are around 50k miles old at the moment. As a former M5 e39 owner I am very excited to be returning to the fold.
