Yesterday something clicked my mind and I needed to talk about this, so I changed my original idea and started to think about "how can we make the world a better place", to be more specific, I wanted to talk about gender roles.

gender roles are just really toxic if you think about it. it's like you can never do something right...
I'm a girl, and like you said it was or is expected of girls to wear makeup. I do wear makeup myself (for other reasons of course) but I still get criticized. why? because it's "too much", I "don't need it" or "it's too much for school".
gender roles are just stupid expectations of people that don't take into account that every single person is different and you can't just divide fashion, mannerisms, entertainment, etc. in two groups. it just doesn't make sense!

Problemas? Llevo el pelo corto y no visto precisamente con la ropa más femenina del mundo, cuál es el resultado? Que en los vestuarios del gimnasio y en los baños públicos me digan: "eh chico, que te has equivocado", "mira perdona, aquí los NIÑOS (25 años voy a cumplir) no pueden entrar" "Eh tú que el de tíos está al otro lado del pasillo" "ah, es que como llevas el pelo corto pensaba que..." Lo que realmente me mosquea no es que me confundan con un chico por llevar ropa masculina y el pelo corto, lo que me cabrea es que me tomen por gilipollas. Muchas gracias amables señoras, por ahora sé a que baño tengo que dirigirme.

Pues de pequeña no me gustaba jugar con barbies ni nada de eso, de hecho no he tenido nunca una barbie... me gustaba irme con la bici o a jugar al fútbol o al baloncesto; y había ciertas personas de mi familia que me decían que no estaba bien estar jugando a cosas "de chicos" y con mayormente chicos; por suerte, mis padres siempre me han defendido, y he crecido viendo normal todo porque sí, porque todo eso no es raro, es diferente y la variedad es buena.
Eso de jugar con chicos, de jugar a deportes a los que solo jugaban chicos y yo, no ha cambiado lo que esas personas pensaban que podría cambiar, me gustan los chicos y es así, porque lo ha sido siempre en mi caso; ahora conozco gente homosexual a la que he visto pasándolo mal, guardándoselo y yo estoy ahí para apoyarles, porque aunque no sea mi caso... me siento afortunada de que confíen esas cosas en mí, y de no tener que pasar por todo lo que van a tener que pasar ellos por gente que no abre la mente.

I completely agree that we should respect people, and if they want to wear or do things not associated with their gender they should be able to. But gender roles are very heavily influenced by biology; for example, young male chimpanzees preferred trucks over dolls, and vice versa. Gender roles aren't just archaic, they're rooted deep in our evolutionary history, and while I agree that we have the power to make a change and respect others, I doubt gender roles will ever be eliminated. Some socially constructed elements like wearing dresses will come and go however; men used to wear big wigs and makeup. Good video man

amazing video. i love talking about these kind of topics and whats awesome about you making it in spanish is that i can show it to my parents and help them learn that gender norms aren't always right. it'll help start a conversation to help them learn.

I 100% agree with you Coque!! Who has any right to decide what boys and girls can and cannot do, just because of their gender? If we aren't harming anyone else, why should anyone tell us that the way we dress or act or express ourselves is wrong? It breaks my heart that there are some who are willing to hurt others just because they don't dress or behave the way they're "supposed to", and they get away with it because too many people believe the same thing. Why is it that boys get beat up for painting their nails and wearing a skirt? Why is it that women get abused for not wanting to stay home and cook and clean and look after the children?

I'm just gonna stop here because this is already turning into a rant and anyway, my point is simple, and matches what you said in this video. We have to respect our fellow human beings and their choices. As long as we don't hurt others, nobody has any right or reason to judge us and tell us that we're wrong. We DO have every right to stand up to abuse against those who are peacefully choosing to live their lives the way they feel is right for them. We don't have to fit neatly into stereotypes about what boys and girls should do, or be, or like. We can change the world, starting with the way we behave and react to these "rules", and it will have a domino effect on the people around us.

i quite like this video !!

i wish i could respond in Spanish, but i am unable to :( i just wanted to say that as a genderfluid person, even in conversations about breaking gender roles and gender binaries, i feel excluded. because often in these conversations, people speak of "opposite genders" and there being only men and women in the world, which isn't the case yanno? so what i'm saying is, since 'we all have the capacity to make little changes that can change the world if we make an effort', i would love for more of these conversations (especially about gender) to take non-binary bodies into consideration.

but seriously, i liked this video (esp what you said about respect) and i like being real world changing things on new age creators. keep doing this - it was awesome.

Thank you for putting this topic in one of your videos. It's the same for me, I can't stand hearing some comments on anybody attitude which seems not right from another person. We say we live in an evolved society, so that's the point, let's acting as we say, free to be who we want to be and respecting others as we respect ourselves.
