THE PRESENTER
Dr Edem Mahu is a senior lecturer of marine biogeochemistry at the University of Ghana. Her work spans past climate reconstruction, nutrient dynamics, coastal upwelling, pollution, marine ocean acidification, and nature-based solutions for climate adaptation. She is a past trustee of the
Partnership for Observation of the Global Ocean (POGO), a NF-POGO alumna and a NANO member. She leads several global efforts to bridge gaps in ocean science capacity, which includes her role as a co-chair of the Ocean Decade Vision 2030 process for Challenge 9 on capacity development and a steering group member for the newly established Ocean Decade capacity development facility. She received the 2022 American Geophysical Union Africa Award for Research Excellence in Ocean Science. She is a National Geographic Explorer, an Affiliate of the African Academy of Sciences, and an African Initiative for Scientific Excellence (ARISE) fellow.

NANO GLOBAL PROJECT NANO-DOAP
In order to contribute to the global effort of monitoring the levels of ocean deoxygenation, acidification and productivity the NANO Global Project (NANO-DOAP) aims: 1) promote in situ and remotely sensed observations of the ocean at selected coastal sites; 2) provide opportunities to the project participants strength their efforts to monitor essential ocean variables; and 3) organize activities where members can share experiences and best practices, as well as compare results from local analysis, producing global results.
