What is your highest and lowest score of the year?

I love clips like this. I don't see the other golftubers spending much time to just sit and talk to us like a friend would. And to add on to what you're saying, I think a lot of people misinterpret what consistency even IS. Just hit 10 perfect shots and you have left/right, front/back dispersion (and probably an outlier somewhere). Just 3 bad mishits can easily drop you 6 strokes in a round depending on where they land. 3 out of 50ish iron swings is pretty darn consistent. Thanks MSH, for taking the time to talk about stuff like this.

Always the best channel for sound golf perspective.

Some of your best insights yet. Your thoughts are very realistic here and people who beat themselves up should be listening to this.

You mentioned Bob Rotellas book from way back when which I still have on my bookshelf. That one book is what finally got me to break 100 in the late 90's. Specifically the section on the short game and how amateurs dread it when they really need to be relishing in it and enjoying it.

Good chat. Words that needed to be said and heard by golfers.

Love the video and appreciate you! Too many amateurs (IMO) don’t focus enough on this. Too busy on chasing distance or not leaving a birdie putt from 20’ short and then 3 putting. I use the analogy of looking at strokes like dollars. It’s a lot easier to keep them from falling out of your wallet than finding them on the course and putting them in it. Take care!

Perspective is vital. Glad you mentioned it. To me it is the most powerful word there is. Things make golf vary day to day even at our best. Weather, conditions, mental and physical limitations and so on. People get hung up on a score. Just because you shot 70 or 75, 85 or 90, on the best day doesn't mean that is your range. When I coached back in the early 90s, we had each player have a range for the day. Ex. my daily range is about 76-83. Allowing for potential things we can't even control. If the course wasn't as well known, add 1-2 more. Is it a hard course slope wise? Take that into account. Some courses around my area are +5 more before I even begin. Long, uneven lies, and super fast greens type things. Sure, we can play well but just knowing the potential is there to be a little higher score. Keep up the good work. Good book option is Zen Golf. Check it out.

lol first I was listening and thinking about that mellow track in background. Comforting jazz music. But you’re telling facts. And then like a wall I realized I AM that 20 stroke player who can have a decent round and WHAMMM 20 strokes higher the next round. When I am healed up from rotator cuff surgery in about 3 more months I’m going back to one of your posts from I believe 2023 where you spoke of playing your own game and swinging in yourself. Can’t wait to put my TaylorMade Burner Mini Driver in play in March.
Thanks for another good video MSH

Thanks once again for a great video. I have noticed what you have been saying this last season ( I only get to play 6 months because of winter for the other 6 months) consistency for me is the same swing and same routine all the time, but if I am off, exactly what you said about having a bad day, that is what I chalk it up to. For me, the important thing that I understand about golf, is to know your swing and what you do as an individual and to know your carry for your clubs and the other important thing I have learned is also strategy on the golf course. Thank you for the great advice. Ervin

I like experimenting too much to ever get good at golf.

When I relax and swing at 75% effort I score best. But it’s not as much fun as trying to out drive my playing partners that are 30 years younger, occasionally winning!

I enjoy the videos and have dropped my handicap over 8 strokes this past two years of watching how you approach the game.

Appreciate you MSH!

These are the videos that I find valuable. I am a tinkerer, and after three seasons of playing, I actually think I have the knowledge to fix myself. So, I was the guy that you talked about and I was always chasing my tail. Greg Maddox didn’t change his delivery or repertoire of pitches if he pitched, in his mind, poorly.
Thanks, man!

I needed this video. Thank you! Highest score 93 a few weeks ago. Lowest score and personal best 76 a few months ago.

Excellent point, we are really unduly tough on ourselves and it’s not necessary. Cheers.

I feel like I get to chasing my problems over just playing my game! Just thought about this at my last SIM session because I could not hit driver over 150 while the week before I was carrying 200! We're not professionals so we shouldn't strive to swing at their level! I'm a feel player, gotta feel good and I'll play good.

I don't like videos like this.... I love videos like this! So much wisdom in this and it's a trap I've fallen into so many times in the past. I watch a lot of content because I can and I enjoy it, when unused to have a bad round it was too easy to fall for the next golden nugget.
Recently I found a drill that really helps me so when I start hitting a few odd shots I just go back to that drill. A few swings on the course or a bucket of balls at the range and I can usually get my groove back.

Great content MSH!!! Love the introspective approach to the game. I have found that making changes in swing or beating yourself up is poor choice. Each round you bring a different game with you! Love this type of content and keep up the good work! Thank you
