TRIP REPORT - PREMIUM ECONOMY REVIEW: BRITISH AIRWAYS vs JAPAN AIRLINES, LONDON TO TOKYO, JAPAN

On a recent trip to Japan I flew from London to Tokyo with British Airways (on a Boeing 787) and flew back with Japan Airlines on a Boeing 777-300. Both flights were Premium Economy and so I thought it would be useful to do a video review comparing and contrasting the two different airlines. This trip report looks at the seats, the seat recline, legroom, windows, space, lighting, food and the goodie bags left out for us and what's in them. And then I deliver my verdict. Watch the video to think which one I thought had the slight edge. Both were good - and got me there safely - but one was definitely better!

Thanks Jo. Great review. I flew back from Tokyo on BA in March with a 14hr 30 flight time and hardly any food. We got a meal after leaving Tokyo and then nothing (yep nothing) for the next 9hrs until a small snack was handed out before landing.
Keep the reports coming!

Nice video!

IMHO JAL's premium economy is the best also because of the sliding seat, the privacy divider at face height : those details really make the difference, especially when combined with the quality of food and service!

Hi Jo, really enjoyed your review, I’m hoping to travel solo with BA premium economy in December. Must say for me Japan airlines is far superior, the seat and the food. Love to see a good detailed review🙋🏻‍♀️

I hate those bucket seats like on the JAL flights. Puts u at a weird angle I find. BA have just reintroduced cup noodles as mid flight snack as well as ice cream, and array of Cadbury chocolates and biscuits. Need to do another review now ha

Thanks for the video! I booked a JAL through BA. How was the online check in process for you? I called BA and they said that they share the same reference number and is the only reference number with JAL. It appears that I have to go through Japan Airlines, but I don't see that reservation. Thank you!

Nice review Jo, I've flown both and much prefer JAL. You didn't mention you get business class lounge access with premium economy with JAL and also champagne is on the wine list.

Hi Jo! really appreciate the video :). We are flying from Heathrow to Male on the 787-9 in Premium Economy and there are only 2 sets of the 2 x Seats left to pre-book, 21A/B or 21J/K which are right at the back. I noticed that you had 21A on one leg of your trip, and the seat hit the wall behind. We have booked 2 seats in the middle isle rather than these rear seats. I guess what I am asking is would you say to avoid the rear at all costs, or is it actuall ok? Many thanks in advance :)
