Of course— we’re all intimately familiar with Communism, but what the hell is Shrek?

Did you know shrek was given to work on as a punishment for animators which leads me to believe they may have intended the film as a critique by the animators of their overlords, or rather that’s what I’d like to believe.

Every day I am greeted with a new marxist analysis of a beloved childrens movie and every day I realize how sick animators must be of consumer culture :/

MISS TROLLEY BOLLEY KINDLY DO NOT STOP MAKING THE VIDEOS

I unironically love videos like this. I remember watching a communist take on Chicken Run and now I cannot see that movie in any other light (and I'm sure it's what its creators probably, originally intended).
Also, side note, while watching this video with closed captions, there's one point where it calls Farquad a 'simp for a larger political ideology' and that was great.

Shrek is below proletariat, he's a subsistence farmer, representing how most of humanity survived for thousands of years and how many people live today. He does not provide to wider society nor does he take from it, and for this, both the proletariat and the Bourgeoisie want him either gone or working. This was the goal of both industrializing capitalist and communist countries, of both the German Empire and Soviet Union.

14:15 To add to this: We can use Shrek the Fourth as evidence that Donkey liked Shrek when they first met because Shrek helped him (showed solidarity for him). In Shrek 4, Shrek has to meet Donkey for the first time under different circumstances (read as: Shrek doesn't demonstrate solidarity), and in this altered timeline, Donkey is afraid of Shrek and tries to run away from him.

I’m currently doing a postgrad research degree in Marxist political philosophy and I can honestly say this is the best example of Marxist analysis of pop culture I’ve ever seen. Might have to use this as a citation at some point ❤

could you not also argue that shrek symbolises those native to the land and being pushed out?
