What we want in a calculator is fast input and fast calculation power. It takes several extra steps to solve an equation than the previous models. Ultimately it affected the user experience. We don't mind to adopt a new layout but it should be more efficient, less time consuming and logical

This is the calculator needed for our MBA studies, which involved more statistical calculation and distribution.

Here in the U.S. we get shafted so many times because both Casio and TI sell their best machines in Europe and Australia.

Best way to approach the "format" issue is changing the input/output display to MathI/DecimalO in the calculator settings menu (Config -> Calc. config -> input/output -> MathI/DecimalO). That way you don't have to change the output format every time you get a fraction as the result is always shown in decimal format. The other way is clicking shift-EXE (≈) every time you perform a calculation, which can be a bit annoying being those keys so far apart from each other.

My biggest dissapointment with the new CW, besides having so many functions hidden, is the colour palette they chose for the iberian market (fx-991SP CW - white and gold). The contrast between these two colors makes it a bit hard to see the alternative functions...

CW is not user-friendly interface as like EX series. EX series gives more flexibility and more time consume UI design.

Reading some comments made me think that this calculator was harder to use and it made everything more tedious than older models like the 991EX for example, but having the actual calculator in my hands i can realize that everything is not that bad, it just fits more stuff inside a menu and the important stuff is on the outside. I consider this model to be more useful for students as some college/highschool students may find useful the menus to memorize and/or learn the name of most of the functions that weren't named before and they just knew the icon and what it does, and yeah, that may sound like a weak argument but we can leave the menu as a way of taste and availability as i couldn't find the 991 EX in my country but i could find this one faster.

I hope they keep producing the 991EX (The white class wiz). Love it as an A-Level FM student (won't be upgrading to this one now as the changes to the layout is too drastic)
2:53 - no shortcut is a problem (the most used is Menu -> A -> 2 -> 2 in GCSE lol)
No way pi is not a button lol
Functions is great but I can just use 'ans'
20:00 - seems like the EX doesn't have inverse binomial as well but it has inverse normal - might need to use a graphing for that

I became a pro with a fx115es in engineering school, and it made sense to be deeply comfortable with how it worked because exams are a sort of artificial hardware limitation.
But now I do almost everything on a computer, so the occasional times I want to pull out pen and paper and calculator, I'd much rather it be intuitive because I don't really have any reason to stay at the skill level I was at with my old calculator.

Excellent video. I purchased the calculator today and as it didn’t come with a manual your video was so helpful.
Thank you very much.

It appears as if this calculator allows one to define a function, and use it in calculations and solve as f(x), instead of having to rewrite the equation every time one wished to use the function that one has defined. It appears that one could choose the integration template and insert f(x) instead of rewriting the equation that was saved into f(x) for example…this is a notable improvement. I wonder if all but saved variables are lost when switching modes or turning the power off as is the case with the fx-991EX.

Memo to Casio Calculator Engineers and Designers: Talk and listen to users in the field, like, for example, The Calculator Guide maths practitioner and teacher, before you light your josh sticks and release bosh like this! Why oh why move and hide the Ans(wer) key up to that lonely left corner and orphan it from the Exe key and kill the SD key which the whole world and beyond press during every calculator session?

It looks to my untutored eye like the Casio calculator design bods spent too much time trying to copy features of the TI (Texas Instruments) calculators. Note the Catalog key! The FORMAT button is a pile of time-consuming tosh! They could have retained the SD function with a shifted FORMAT key! And what in tarnation is that shifted equals = key doing above the open left parenthesis key? Or is it an equals key? My dog Boo thinks it is!

Oh, and when did three tiny circles indicate a universal symbol for TOOLS? Dear oh dear. If I was gifted a copy of the Casio CW calculator, I would give it to Boo to chuck in the air for catching practice! I love that dog, but, alas, I will never be flashing this calculator at cocktail parties or weddings! Garsoon! Fetch me my Classwiz fx-991EX. Mush!

Caveat: i find more user friendly and intuitive TI Scient. calc. That said. I appreciate the cleaner lay out, I think they copied a bit TI, with one only 2nd fucntion key etc... but In my opinion the ease of use has dropped.. to many functions have been hidden. And the menu, even if is more fancy than TI one, is not suited to be managed by this layout. Except for tiny improvements (math box: not necessary at all, with apps and other graphic calc...) i think the 991 EX is better, even if with a more messy layout and all those keys and left/ right upper keys. When you get used is fast.

Really annoyed by the lack of periodic table, I do A-Level chemistry and maths so it would have been nice especially considering the Japanese version of the fx-991ex has a periodic table.

Often in elektronic engineering i have to parallel calculate values like 500 // 220 = 500 * 220 / 500 + 220, is there a way to make a shortcut for this?

Obviously this new model is designed for people who does not prioritize input efficiency, but ease of use without the need to read the manual. I am personally the former, but I know many people who never read the manual and weren't aware of the features other than simple calculations. I personally don't care for this model, but understand why some people will find it much easier to use than the EX.

Note solving x²=36 with the seed 0 should produce an error but it does not as the calculator approximates the derivate. It is not necessarily the nearest if the function is not symmetrical.

I'm not so sure about this "move". Casio has had for years now, across many models/generations, a familiar feel/layout to them. This is quite the bold move.

can you make a separate video on how to use this calculator to find the unknown in the given equation. like 9x+345=4 directly.

Having a large collection of modern and vintage Casio calculators I was surprised at how bold Casio was with the design changes on this one. For better or worse they have actually broken some design patterns that have been in Casio calculators for decades.
I posted my own review where I was a bit more optimistic about the changes. I think for the average student the CW will be a lot easier to use than the EX, but it does come at the expense of speed of use. I appreciate you sitting on the fence about which calculator is "best" - it really depends on the user I think.

Functionality aside, if they just kept both CW and EX models in production, everyone would be happy. Discontinuing the ex is what is pissing most people off.
